how do people decide which version of a character to tag when there's multiple ones up on a meme?

feels bad being the untagged one just because i top-leveled slower

i inspect the liver of a freshly slaughtered sheep so that i may divine which version is the most open to playing out butt stuff

often it is just a matter of first come, first serve. Though if its a popular character I'll usually hit up a few of the journals before I decide which one to tag. Sometimes listed prefs will tell me if they're likely to answer a tag from my type of character or examples of their writing will be there or they'll have a long ass crazy screed that warns me 'not this one'. Sometimes icons are pretty telling too. If they list ota on a smut meme but every icon is a specific pairing or something you can generally safely skip if you're not that pairing. Mostly though I do that extra stuff if I've got spare time on my hands and the memes been up for a while and so there's no rush. If I'm just dropping some quick opening tags and then having to get off again, I'll usually either hit a familiar account I've seen answering tags in previous memes or one that looks open. Sometimes I'll tag someone that's got no tags or someone that's been hit by a notorious cock-hop just to offer an alternative. It's really just luck of the draw, anon. Don't let it get to you. Tag out and before you know it your top-levels will be getting hits even if they come late in a meme.

Usually I start at the most recent top levels and go backwards, because I feel like I'll have more chance of a tag-back the less time that has passed between their comment and mine. But I think most people go for whoever they see first.

usually i take a quick look at their journal to see if there's any rp there to give me an idea of what they're like

especially helpful if they have a thread tracker so you can see their response rate to tags

i'm actually more likely to tag an untagged top-level, if i go back far enough to see it.

if i see multiples of a character i like, i try to tag them both with different starters.

if one posts a top level after i do, they'd have to tag my top-level because i don't usually check out meme comments multiple times.

am i the only one that doesn't like this?

why are you making two memes compete for one slot when one of them is actively popular and the other one isn't? that's asking for a flood of complaints when the reverse meme takes the sunday slot. the reverse meme is not a thing. stop trying to make it a thing.

i like the reverse meme more because you can't just musedump and run. it actually sometimes gets threads instead of 9 pages of empty top levels.

I don't see why the smutty picture prompt meme can't also be the reverse smutty prompt etc etc meme

Are we that fucking picky that people can't top-level with their own prompts?

I get so salty when I hit up like a tdm or something that's been active for maybe a week or two, and...

Nothing.

Nada.

jfc people these things don't have expiration dates. I get bites when I get into them earlier so it probably isn't my rp, but with my work schedule I can't always hit up everything I want on the day of.

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably best to tag other people's top levels if it's been over a week. Otherwise unless someone has a notification alarm for new people tagging in, they won't see it.

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
uh the time between the tdm and apps for some games IS a week or two, so a lot of people have moved on to actually apping into the game and introing/building cr with their new gamemates. i never check for new starters after two weeks. especially since most games have monthly tdms, a new one is just around the corner.

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, they do. the implicit expiration date on a tdm is when the app round it's put up for closes.

people might be willing to tag you back if you tag them, but no one's going to be continually checking the tdm after the app round has come and gone just in case some wee lost lamb has toddled in two weeks late with starbucks.

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly they do, and the NEETs that saturate this place aren't going to see or respond to your starter two weeks after a TDM goes up. That's just how it is. You have a busy work schedule? Oh well.

Your choices are either tagging their starters or hoping time's on your side the next TDM goes up.

I would consider a two-week-old meme to be pretty crusty. If I heard that a potential castmate or friend's character were on it, I'd be happy to go tag them, but at that point I wouldn't be checking it myself.

when there's a canonmate you want to tag but they can't decide on brackets or prose so they change halfway through the tag

related: people who start the thread in one tense and then switch halfway through

and then switch again

holy fuck just pick a tense already goddamn.

if you want to tag my character, tag my character. if you want to play your ship that doesn't involve my character, go find someone to play your ship with and have fun. but don't tag my character just to try and work your ship into the conversation/get my character to ask about/react to your ship.

getting real sick of this.

when you end up threading with someone in a meme but nobody else has really posted and you feel kinda awkward in case people look at you.

i know i could just not tag into it but my friend linked me especially and it's not like i'm going to ask them to make a new post in a musebox because i'm a precious shy sunflower

oh sweetlotus is back. i always got them confused for jess because they displayed literally all the same psychotic stalking over ships behaviors and seemed to disappear when jess was active and be active when jess disappeared.

either way they were a huge psychopath stalker. does anyone have any evidence of them being the same (i could swear i read they were), but if not any old links to refresh my memories would be appreciated.
