I'm in my late twenties and generally play characters in a similar age range. Under 21 is just too young for me for both IC and OOC reasons.
i actually don't mind age ups for memes. i feel like i'm in the minority on this.
you might be. it's not like it's a bad thing, but if i put '21+' and someone 'ages up' their fifteen/sixteen year old, especially when they're using the same icons/personality, it's not really an age up. it's a shitty way to get around a stated preference. some people might do it well, have a separate account/different icons for an aged up version, but most people that i've come across do it badly and just want to play with someone that doesn't want to play with their char.
people have definitely gotten more handflappy about it in recent years

people gripe about bucky but at least that fucker got screentime, this is like trying to thor's older brother tyr who was in exactly one scene in thor 2 and no one even knew it was him unless they read super hard into the supplemental material and junk

as someone who does this all the time whenever i put someone on a smut meme, i do it because i don't want to write smut with teenage characters.
most of my characters are over 30. icly, they aren't going to be interested in having relationships or sex with people so young. and when i forget to put that caveat, i get the teenagers and the just barely legals. i want to thread with characters closer to my characters' ages.

i really don't see what the problem is other than massive highlandering syndrome and "they're not playing the way i like". guys, it's fiction. some of my adult characters have gotten along better with teenagers that have tragic mcbackstory than 21+ characters. i guess i just don't care enough.
oh no. god forbid you play out the internal conflict instead of fluff.
