I keep hoping that GRRM will croak and they'll bring in Brandon Sanderson to finish it the way they did with WoT. Five thousand percent less creepy author fetishes and damned good writing from someone who knows how to make characters not suck.

"and Cersei being a villain 75% on a count of being a lady who likes having sex"

lol yes, let's forget that she's a liar, murderer, abuser and all-around user. none of that mattered, it's all about the fact that she likes sex. i mean, there's no other female character that likes sex in the show, is there? oh wait...

(Anonymous) 2017-03-27 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
now that's some nerdrage, to wish for someone's death over a book series.

to be fair

the male characters are just as shallow and in a sea of fantasy books where all women do are twiddle their thumbs and get married this is already an improvement

Well, he's not immortal. Valar morghulis, you know?

Would you be happier if I just said I hope he doesn't get off his ass to finish the series before he inevitably does? Same thing basically. I hope the resolution of the series ends up in a better writer's hands.

i never took the scene that way and always thought people blew it out of proportion. i figured she brought up the fact that she's infertile in response to bruce telling her that he could never have children, and she was empathizing him. the "i'm a monster" sentiment seemed to stem more from her being made into a ruthless killing machine than "boo hoo my broken uterus" everyone made it out to be.

don't get me wrong, i don't care about the movies as much as the people who actually play from it. i just think it's dumb that people zeroed in on that one detail and walked away from it with a completely ridiculous meaning. but hey if you want to hate on the movie then i doubt that'll change your mind.

Is WoT worth finishing? I was way into it like 15 years ago and I bought the final book but ehhh....

yes anon, how dare brienne be motivated because she was mocked as a child so she rejected her gender's confines and learned to kick serious ass

and cersei isn't a villain for liking sex, are we even talking about the same thing here

the rest I'll agree with you on, although good high fantasy female characters are hard to come by. they're almost always written as whiny sadsacks, stubborn angry bitches, or whiny sadsacks who turn into whiny angry bitches. for the former: I'm looking at you, Nynaeve

what makes you so great that anyone has to care about your judgement.

I agree, anon. That scene seemed so oddly placed that I figured it probably had more to do with the dozens of suits trying to interfere with the original script. It was very "THERE NEEDS TO BE A ROMANCE" Corporate Directive in a script that otherwise felt like it didn't want to have a romance in it. Joss gets a lot of heat for being the guy with his name on the movie, but I really think Avengers2 suffered from having too many cooks.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-28 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
it also gets tiring to dance around in writing.

Cersei and to a lesser degree Brienne work much better as indictments of a sexist society than as awesome ~flawless queen~ types on their own. Honestly though it sounds like you were just misled about the series in general, and I'm sorry you got its level of unpleasantness as a surprise.

anyone who thinks cersei is considered evil because she likes sex never watched the fucking show or read the books

(Anonymous) 2017-03-28 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
actual woman here who thinks 'pussy' is sexy. so ymmv. i prefer it over cunt or slit or other terms.

it's all down to preference on that one.

It's worse when your character isn't really interested in someone, to the point Word of God stated it's one sided, and everyone ships them together.

My tales of butthurt are all about my muse being thrown at X and being expected to love him/her just because it's the fan-favorite pairing and "canon" /shrughs

I can't even imagine how annoying it would be if they were actually canon.

inspired partially by whatever's going on in that zelda thread to prompt so much autistic rage: anons you've seen here and on rpa with the dumbest complaints, arguments or ways of thinking

hard mode: no yield anon, no "everyone", no "you for starting this thread"

i wanted to see what people thought, not stir up wank. personally i found the message to be very random, not very progressive considering the year mass effect takes place in, and targeted at the player rather than focusing on the universe and characters in the game. it isnt flagged by characters fighting over mental illness being real or not, the defensive attitude comes out of no where and it reads like the writer using the game as a mouthpiece.

and okay sure, every piece of media is going to be used as a mouthpiece to some extent, but this was so blatantly directed at the player it bothered me.

im over it though. moved on, played more, and while it irked me its not going to ruin an already eh game.

Me for responding to this thread and thinking that being meta would be cute.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-31 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
it doesn't sound like it's trying to be defensive or scold the player, it sounds like it's trying to reassure the reader

the basic gist of it is "it's okay to not be okay, make sure you take care of yourself"

(Anonymous) 2017-04-01 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
apping in with more than one character then dropping because the game "isn't fast enough" but making only one attempt at integrating their characters.

(Anonymous) 2017-04-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
i don't get this one, but maybe only because i headcanon my characters as bi but falling for chemistry over gender. their chemistry usually just happens to be better with the men folk since women characters in anime are, and lets be honest here, pretty damn annoying most of the time.
