I's say this was A+ trolling, anon, but aiming for retail workers in a hobby full of them is low-hanging fruit. Also, "slag" made you sound like a 13-year-old fanfic writer trying to write a villain in a Harry Potter fanfic.
You got people to take the bait but there was no actual artistry here. 3/10, at best.
I've been there, anon. As nice as it'd be to just avoid looking at how much they're tagging each other while ignoring you, it's hard not to notice when you're scrolling down an event log and see their threads breaking the page. It's a crummy feeling. I've just started viewing open/event logs in Top-Level Comments Only so I'm not having to look at it as much.
we had a thread like this with some good advice over here from the last post https://wankgate.dreamwidth.org/51634.html?thread=200220594#cmt200220594
was in your same situation and in my experience people are often just kind of careless. they don't mean bad, but they don't think about how it looks when they keep dropping threads while insisting they enjoy the cr. i had this issue with one person where we made plans, they seemed very excited, and it never went anywhere because they just dropped our stuff constantly. and a dropped thread every so often isn't earth shattering, but this was a pattern with them. perfectly nice person, just not reliable to tag or plot with, and i am not even a "tag everyday" type of person myself.
in any case if this person is a castmate you have every right to come up to them and talk about it, especially if your characters are close in the series they come from. for close crosscanon-cr... if they are really close to yours, then nudge them about it. if they aren't that close though i would just move on and leave the ball in their court. if they want to tag you, they need to actually tag you and not just make empty promises. it doesn't need to be every day, but it needs to happen, because rp discussion means nothing if you don't actually do it.
It is hard not to notice especially when it's not an event thread. They post to the main comm so just going through my reading page shows they have hundreds of comments on a post I replied to but the thread was abandoned. I get X muse isn't as fun to tag with as Y muse but even Y muse doesn't tag me back as much as their other CR so it's not just that either.
also canon familiar: I would actually be really jazzed to see someone play Castle Heterodyne well? It's a very full, fleshed out character that we get to see do a lot of things. I'd say it was totally appable to a game, and as you've said, the Castle has lots of little bodies through which it projects its personality which would be super easy to use as its body in a game.
Wanting to bring ALL of Castle Heterodyne to a game just ... screams of wanting to be the specialest and the coolest and have people try to sneak into said Castle and giggle when characters fall into traps or whatever. Like basically it would be all about how great and smart and funny they are and ... lmao. fuck that. you don't REALLY want ti play a character, you just want to be the star of the show and have everyone pay attention to you. fuck off, I bet this person would play a fucking terrible Castle anyway.
I'm dealing with a friend I've known for years who I've never rped with before now. Our characters are inseparable in canon so figuring out how to pull back on activity with them while remaining IC is a big struggle but I feel like that's my only option with the continual lies and lack of follow through.
The Worst part is this person wanted to ship and they've made no effort to make it work. I don't even want to tag with them anymore.
I'm the same way so I get it when it's like that. I have canonmates in another game like that and we openly discuss it and communicate like adults rather than pretend it's not happening or make empty promises to improve.
HAHA i also used to know Alphie. in fact we were close castmates. yikes. talk about the most obnoxious and also creepy shithead ever. I had no idea who she was so I got to go through the whole horrible realization of how unbelievably terrible she was before finally cutting her out. thank god she eventually dropped my game.
at various times I've also been friends with Stormy and Second. i was even close-ish with Second at one point, before shit hit the fan. nothing "happened" except that with stormy i eventually just got tired of what a dick he was (even BEFORE i found out about all his stalking and harassing) and with second i eventually found out from a friend that was close with her what skin-crawling pedo shit she was up to, and i cut her out of my life.
if anyone remembers the name, i was also ACTUALLY close with jasper/kim many years ago. THAT was a nightmare.
They're close canon CR, I've talked to them about it. At least I've tried to. I'd be fine even to handwave stuff but they clearly don't like doing that so I'm left with nothing a lot of the time.
Seems like they only care about ships.
Thanks for the link anon, I've read through it and I do some of these things already, I'm fine focusing on my other CR and other games I just wish this person hadn't apped into my cast if they're not even going to play the character. They tag my other canon mates even less than me but since the characters aren't as close it's not as much of an issue for those players to dismiss.
eeehhh i'm not saying i'm super positive about chibnall, but he also ran broadchurch (i only watched the first season, and i heard the third was hella rocky) and l&o: uk (which nobody watched but it went on for quite some time, i believe) and actually wrote several episodes (and co-produced) s1 & s2 of torchwood.
(i'm not sure which "worst episode" you're talking about, but i'm assuming it's cyberwoman. he also wrote countrycide, which i think a lot of people view as one of the better episodes? fragments is my personal fave as well.)
i will give you the mediocrity of his who episodes, though. 42 is one of my least favorites, and i feel like the only notable one he did under moffat was dinosaurs on a spaceship, which is only because it had...dinosaurs on a spaceship. though he also wrote brian pond, so i'll give him credit for that, and the postscript he did that was never filmed is fucking heartbreaking.
ANYWAY that's too many words saying inconclusive things about chris chibnall. so yeah. that christmas special was awful.
I dropped a character from a game because, being that she was 12 and most of the cast was older, plus her canon was excessively violent and that put people off, I couldn't get much CR going. Since not everyone looks at the Drop/Hiatus post, I made a quick plurk to let people know I was dropping her. BIG mistake. She had maybe three threads in as many months with this one person's character and their best friend just sort of went off on me, PPing me repeatedly explaining that informing people on plurk that I was dropping was dramatic, attention-seeking, vindictive and clearly me trying to 'destroy the feelings' (exact quote, whatever the fuck that means) of this one person I RPed with. Pointing out that the character's main CR had dropped and I didn't want to character squat was ignored because they were convinced I was trying to hurt their best friend. They kept repeating to me that their friend was a parent and so it was my fault I didn't get more threads with them because playing a traumatized child character makes parents uncomfortable.
And it was like ??? on my end because I had basically given up on tagging their friend since they were a chronic flake and had never tagged them personally with that character at all. But they were so pissed they stopped tagging my other character with theirs and have stopped tagging other people for similarly minor infractions - putting out a courtesy plurk to the effect of 'hey guys I dropped X jysk' apparently always riles them up. For a while I still had them on my plurk because I didn't want them to lose their shit if I unfriended them, but then I reserved a new character and when I mentioned it on plurk they PP'd me to let me know they wouldn't be tagging with a 'drama queen' like myself and reminded me of all the horrible things (see proceeding paragraphs) I had done and how I'd really hurt their friend and I should be ashamed. It's been nearly six months since I dropped that character and they're still mad I... dropped without consulting their friend first and dared to mention dropping on plurk.
So I've defriended them and I'm sure they'll hold a grudge over that but honestly they and their friend are pretty much only in the game to shiptease each other in a very 'haha they're like a married couple NO HOMO THO' way so I can avoid them in the game really easily. I just find it surreal that two separate people are mad at me after six months for me deciding my character is a shitty fit for a game and withdrawing her from said game.
I was at an advantage, sort of. She tried, but she was terrible at it, and told different stories to different people without considering the possibility that they might... you know, talk to each other and compare stories.
the funniest part of this is all the people going 'ugh, im going back to STEVEN UNIVERSE' when the creator of that used to draw ed edd 'n eddy porn.
That said, I wouldn't really describe it as 'lots of people in fandom jumping ship.' It mostly seems like people who are into steven universe and invested in that weird fandom war finding an excuse to dislike a thing, versus just disliking it.
If people have a problem with disrespecting history, I can get that, but a shitton of characters in the game are already based on historical/mythological figures. I don't know why a world war 1 video game level is more disrespectful to history and culture than female Mordred, an angsty superhero that literally fought in world war 1, or the cute little girl version of a guy that helped commit hundreds of violent child murders. I think history'd be messed with regardless of the setting they went to.
