but my point was that you can't dictate to someone what their character can and cannot do.
yes, you can in some cases. if i'm playing a character who in canon has the ability to nullify say fire damage, then i can tell someone that their fire-based attack isn't going to be able to hurt my character. why should i have to change a canon fact about my character just so that someone else can get to play with their character's powers? no one character is going to be all-powerful and able to overpower every other character they encounter. sometimes they're going to go up against someone and they're going to be at a disadvantage.
saying that no one else can ever be able to nullify or resist your character's powers is just as much godmoding as saying that your character can nullify everyone's powers.
