sherlock had a really goddamn racist episode, elementary cast lucy liu as watson and isn't making the character a walking stereotype; sherlock has multiple "oh my gosh someone thinks we're a COUPLE!" scenes and that weird thing they did with irene adler, elementary actually managed to introduce a major trans* character and didn't make any jokes or make her a stereotype or a villain
like, i realize elementary isn't the best thing on tv, but it's definitely better than bbc sherlock, if only because bbc sherlock sets a really low bar

I sorta had some sympathy till this point, because arm chair activism, like people replurking a white house petition and thinking they solved everything, annoys the hell out of me. but that's pretty solidly "doing something" even if it's a small something.
I'm assuming you must be involved in some pretty intense activism yourself to be this frustrated, and while I understand how annoying it can be to see people only making small moves when you know what CAN be done, that's still a very counter productive attitude.

I was thinking mostly about "Even in novels, characters can have long conversations with only occasional references to their actions." In a novel scene, writers don't have to do that because they don't swap character perspectives each time a new character speaks.
Meanwhile in RP, where the perspective does switch every tag, just putting in the conversation part seems too short to a lot of players (especially in prose) and so they cram in lots of actions or thoughts because they feel like they have to make it longer or more interesting somehow.

i am. so peeved by this instance with my rp partner. we're doing this one au, and it's kind of just cute and fluffy, and i have no issue with it, but then she tells me she's losing interest because it's cute and fluffy. "why can't they just kick butt and have action and stuff and not relationship drama?" okay, that's totally fair and i agree! i would love to do something with real action and violence and awesome shit that's not just relationship stuff.
so i suggest multiple different options that involve a lot of action, that involve the characters stopping bad guys, saving the world, etc.
she doesn't like any of these.
her suggestion instead?
a college au.
and all of it centers around the ships.
