I feel the same as someone on the opposite end of this. I play characters who are young and probably wouldn't always be taken seriously by some of the older/more hardened characters but who would nevertheless want plot involvement.
I don't want to force my character to have CR with someone if it would be OOC for that person's character but I also don't want to deal with my character not being able to participate in plot events because some other character is handling it instead. My character is still going to want to participate in plot stuff, whether other characters are comfortable with that or not, and it'd be nice to be able to do that.
