I don't get it. It doesn't really come off as him having a holier than thou attitude. Yes, he made the conversation about himself, but that was because he's inviting conversation with his views on the matter? If anything, it read to me that he's willing to talk about the article and the topics it brings up, but doesn't want to come off has being an asshole or being insensitive to a clearly hot-button subject.
