Why though? I, for example, get to top in most of my threads. I enjoy it. But I never, ever, ever get the chance to have my character bottom and people expecting you to top gets old really damn fast. I'd kill for someone to top my character, too. Not even necessarily dominate them. *shrug*
a. the whole top and bottom thing is old as fuck b. acting like your character getting "dominated" is the golden egg of smut rp c. implying people who aren't dominate in the "real world" can't be dominate in the bedroom
'Dominate' implies a one time session in which one person takes control in a sexual encounter, though both roles are suppose to be active, this is the person leading in the thread I believe. I believe their complaint was valid enough, because pillow queens are a waste of space and far too common.
'Dominant' implies a personality or sexuality type. While the term is usually used in BDSM, it is also used in the real world to describe confident, outgoing and attention holding personalities.
I saw no implication that their character wasn't capable of taking the lead, only that they weren't a 'take the lead all the time' kind of character.
