That's a pretty good one. Slacktivist, that is. But from what I know of hippies, even in the 1960's, the majority of them just whined and wrote songs.
I could be wrong.
I don't know. I like the word 'hippies' for all whiners like that. Mostly because when you say it you can put a lot of hate behind it. And people usually get what you're talking about.
"wah wah wah things are bad in another country here's a kickstarter and my etsy where I sell shitty pony-bead jewelry and I might even send some of the profits to a "charity" where most of my money will end up lost in administrative fees."
It makes me so mad I want to shit and throw it at them.
wait, your idea of not doing something is actually making things to sell and donate the money to charity?
I sorta had some sympathy till this point, because arm chair activism, like people replurking a white house petition and thinking they solved everything, annoys the hell out of me. but that's pretty solidly "doing something" even if it's a small something.
I'm assuming you must be involved in some pretty intense activism yourself to be this frustrated, and while I understand how annoying it can be to see people only making small moves when you know what CAN be done, that's still a very counter productive attitude.
Yes, the majority of every group in existence just sits on its ass.
Music was a huge part of hippie culture, but it wasn't just drugs and sex and doing nothing. There were protesters, counterculture activists, the antiwar movement, strong support of the Civil Rights movement, the Peoples' Park, the peace rally against invading Cambodia that led to the National Guard murdering college kids.
There's a legitimate legacy there, and people that took part in those events often faced much higher risks than activists do today.

Do you know why that is? Think about this really, really hard. If you do, you might actually understand how idiotic you sound.
'From what you understand' we can understand that you actually don't know what you're talking about. You're just parotting what you heard on Fox News without any thought of your own.
I could be wrong.
Yes, you are. You managed to be worse than the people you were crying about. Good work, that took some effort.
There is some incredibly delicious irony in someone whining about people being lazy, while being themself too lazy to actually bother to take ten minutes to research a major social movement.
