ugh i fucking hate small talk irl i don't want to rp this shit

it's why i don't join slice of life games but they're like a plague

are there any games that are advertised as something other than slice of life that haven't been overrun by mindless tittybabies setting up tea parties and playing with kittens in the middle of a warzone or some shit

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
save the earth is supposed to be plot-heavy?

and you could check out damned but i haven't lurked over there in a while so idk what's up with them

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i actually used to play in damned years ago and had no idea it was still going

i'll look at the other one too ty

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
you sound socially maladjusted

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
no, just easily bored by pointless bullshit

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Fun Fact: If the only time our characters interact is when Plot Stuff is happening, I'm going to play them as only interacting at those times and not having any sort of deep CR.

If all threads are small talk and slice of life bullshit, then yeah, you have a point, complain away. But if you never ever ever ever want to play out small talk, then I don't want more than surface-level CR with your characters, because I don't want to handwave every goddamn "normal" interaction they have. Regular everyday interactions are how people get to know each other and bond, and if all you want is constant horror and war RP or w/e, then I don't want the headache of "assume our characters are close and figure out how your character would feel about and react to mine when you have no idea how the two of them interact under normal circumstances."

So, yeah, you do kinda sound socially maladjusted. Plotty games slipping into pure slice of life is obnoxious as fuck, but you can't have ALL ACTION ALL THE TIME. People have downtime and try to have moments where they do normal shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah uh i am more so talking about games listed as plotty on the tin devolving into constant small talk and people wanting to play out mostly surface-level interactions

idk why you're assuming so much about my level of social adjustment based on what i want to rp and what i don't so i'm just going to call you an assfuck and move on

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Going to second the above anon. Fake advertising is wrong and sorry for those idiots, but you can't completely avoid small talk, even in plot heavy games. It's part of life.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
ik i can't avoid it, i just don't want to spend the majority of my time on it either online or offline because it's not something i enjoy doing

if a game is like 95% tea and kittens and 5% plot/events and most of the players just react to mod stuff instead of coming up with shit of their own,i find it boring because usually that playerbase is really resistant to player-run plots, or the mods discourage it, so there's nothing to do

hence why i asked for recs

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that does make sense. But you said ugh i fucking hate small talk irl i don't want to rp this shit so it sounded to me like you wanted to avoid it completely.

About recs: The Games, like the other anon said, is a very good option. Asgard used to have lot of stuff going on but I haven't checked in a while, so you should ask first because I think some people are complaning about the current state of the game.

Some small talk is necessary for characters to bond and get to know each other.

Now, if 90% of the interaction my character has with yours in a supposed horror or plot-oriented game is small talk, then that's fucking obnoxious. The majority of our CR should be spent on actual plot shit.

But I don't understand how our characters are ever supposed to bond or develop meaningful CR if they can't ever have a single normal conversation.

And I like slice of life, but I don't need OP to like what I like.

some characters are really awful for inane slice-of-life small talk because they're socially awkward or aloof but they're fun to play in other situations

not every character is going to give a shit about your character's pet cat or what your character had for breakfast so games where you can get by and build CR without having to spend lots of time threading that kind of stuff are a godsend

yeah basically

Very obvious, too.

Calling someone "maladjusted", really, slice of life nerds? That's just idiotic.

i just wish there was a game that gave time for slice of life and had an ongoing plot that i can keep up with. games that are plot-heavy are almost always horror and i almost always don't have time to do a three day plot as it happens or whatever. i have time, i just get burnt out!

Tbh I like some slice of life, I get burned out when it's all action, all the time.

But at the same time I also get bored as fuck when a game is NOTHING but slice of life.

It'd be nice if there was a game where you had a slice of life element but also had an ongoing plot and had room to do stuff that wasn't just slice of life.

I honestly do find "tea parties in the middle of a war zone" or talking about pet animals to be mind-numbing, but I do find it interesting when characters can talk about their feelings/traumatic pasts with someone who has been through similar shit.
