See, that's not how I read it at all. I don't know, some of the wording was off and made me side-eye hard, but it read as genuine to me? I didn't think it came off as LOOK AT ME I'M A GREAT GUY as much as I fucked up, this is how I am trying to improve.

that's how i read it too, anon. he seemed genuinely remorseful, like he wanted to not be such a shitty person and do right. i too am appalled by all of this, but i took this confession as a desire to do better and apologize. it doesn't erase the fucking terrible things he's done and the deceptions he's perpetuated, but i am also willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
