and it's a vicious cycle, because i definitely don't post as much as i used to in response to there being such little variety, and I'm sure I'm not the only one
and it's hard to find an la that's not from urban fantasy, a period drama, or a comics canon. none of those are even remotely interesting to me.
i will willingly tag a la from anything else pretty much
it's just that the way people play characters from the above categories bores the ever-loving shit out of me. they are all basically the same with bland "snarky" humor and constantly having to one-up everyone in every thread and show how awesome and amazing their presh babbu is
the funny thing about this is that they're basically all huge medium snobs and yet this is the exact same behavior from the shonenshit players, and i hate them too
ugh yeah i do get what you mean there. i play from la and anime and i have to say the level of snobbery is way higher from the la people. anime just seem shy about tagging la because they expect rejection, whereas la don't tag anime because they assume they're better and the anime should 'prove' themselves as being good enough first. and yet anime sobs and la snobs do not act differently at all. a snob is a snob.
i'm lucky in that i've always had the pleasure of playing against a lot of la players who aren't snobs and enjoy seeing their characters get called out on being idiots or assuming they're automatically cooler. they just usually play in games instead of on memes.
also play from la and anime, but i'm nervous tagging cross-canon with strangers in general
i love cross-canon threads, but considering how many people don't, i prefer to keep to people who either specify or who would have such neat cr with one of mine that i can't resist
i love cross-medium tagging. it feels like there's a trick to making it work, though: when you tag out, your first tag has to weave in character description and canon that you're using. you can only put in the really important points, though. after that first tag, you might not get a chance to use that again, other than in small bits of dialogue.
you basically have to expect that the person you are tagging out does not know your character or their canon and turn your character into something recognizable, like a monomyth.
i haven't boomerang-tagged on memes, admittedly. i have more of stick to slow tagging and i'm perfectly happy with it.
i play a couple urban fantasy muses, and even i avoid a lot of other urban fantasy muses for the reasons you listed. i don't ant to be in a thread where my muse is expected to either be an idiot, or in constant competition with the other muse.
tbh, most of the games i end up interested in have a disproportionate number of characters i can't buy a shit to give about too. that includes la and animu, but at least the animus are better about tagging around.

all the live action ran them out
