i feel so terrible for anyone playing dexter, deb or any other recurring character this season, knowing how badly their personalities have been warped. it's been rubbish for a while, but basic characteristics have been thrown out the window to make the writers more comfortable with the turnout. what's worse is this pattern of atrocious pacing, ooc-ness and mind-numbingly dull subplots will continue in 2 days!!
Hey, please spoil me. I stopped watching this show after the end of season five and I keep hearing about how much of a downwards spiral it's been in since then. How godawful and mindbogglingly idiotic is it really? Be as detailed and hateful as you want, I really just want my curiosity sated here without watching the thing.
it had moments in season 7 where it really hit gold - deb/laguerta being onto dexter's bullshit, isaak sirko's existence and jennifer carpenter's fantastic magic ability to make a terribly written show watchable - but on the whole it has been on a downward slope from campy garbage to painstakingly unwatchable. us poor viewers have had to endure the following:
✗ several subplots dedicated to quinn's sex life. first of all why are the showrunners assuming that we, the audience, are totally entranced by desmond harrington and his bony buttcheeks ✗ a blatantly obvious psycho-esque twist where one of the main villains was being imagined in his supposed pawn's head, and that said pawn (played by a hilariously woeful colin hanks) was behind it all along. he spent most of the finale angrily stomping around and eating cheerios ✗ debra discovered that she didn't just love dexter as a relative, but that she was, in fact, in love with him!! because somehow every woman who is important to dexter and reasonably attractive must be secretly harbouring the hots for him. otherwise it wouldn't do michael c hall's ego a world of favours. ✗ laguerta being onto dexter, only to get racially abused, dismissed and finally fucking shot for daring to bring some stakes back in the show. shot by debra 'it's true that some people deserve to die but i'm a cop and i can't make that fucking decision' morgan herself. not to mention that her death hasn't been looked into in the slightest this season. ✗ dexter embarking on an oddly boring romantic relationship with this poisoning florist hannah, who was this clumsy biney/lila mashup. you wouldn't think that a romance between two serial murderers would be mundane, but good god the dialogue in fucking hollyoaks has more punch than their bland affair. hannah on her own was interesting, but really she would have been potentially much more awesome if she hadn't been used solely as an emotional crutch for dexter. ✗ also deb loathed dexter and was plummeting down an emotional, drug-addled downward spiral this season and, with green-screen effects aplomb, drove her and dexter into a nearby lake. come episode six her and dex are bosom buddies again!! also debra gets berated by your average reddit user her boss for being such a 'fucking bitch' while he's such a Nice Guy, and she straight up apologizes to him without a fight. and the writers intend this scene as a 'wake up call' to deb rather than showing him as a complete asshole undeserving of respect. ✗ dexter finding out this season's killer with an age regression/progression software. i shit you not. ✗ also last season hannah attempted to kill deb by poisoning her with her own xanax. this season dexter demands that deb should let hannah stay with her, who is a wanted fugitive, under the impression that hannah won't poison her again. twenty minutes into the episode and deb and hannah are eating salad and gabbing away like the possibility of there being any trace of aconite in the food is just ludicrous.
and there are so much more gaping plotholes and inconsistencies that i could pick into, but i'll spare you the monitor space

The reason why anon has heard bad things about the last few seasons is because you splatter your frothing hatred about it wherever possible. Do you not have actual friends you can spit vitriol with that you have to come and complain about it on role play anon comms? Seriously, if you don't like this show then why the fuck are you even still watching it?
