henlein's setting was one of ev's potential gamma settings, the runner up to the one that won. at the time there was a lot of wank over the voting. anons saying lovecraft was the easy option, not dark enough, henlein was superior, only inactive squatters would want lovecraft, and so on. as soon as lovecraft won jao went off to make henlein and i think left the game entirely.
and didn't henlein struggle to get apps? might be reading too much into it but it seems to me that she thought her concept should have won ev's voting and when it wasn't the huge hit she expected she went mia.
She actually had been struggling with activity in EV for awhile iirc, since she put most of her energy into mod work. She stepped down as mod before the final round of votes, when Henlein still had a good chance of winning, but was supposed to continue to do web design for the newly created website exitvoid.info which hasn't been updated since because she dropped off the face of the planet and idled out with her remaining characters.
TBH I always side-eyed the Henlein game pretty hard since she just kind of flaked on EV, idling out as well as the doomed website experiment. Apparently she got a new job around the same time she idled out of EV, and looking at her public plurk, she just got another new job before she flaked out on Henlein.

if that's true it's stupid as hell. the game got a decent number of apps as far as i saw, and more people were spreading the word and dropping reserves.
i'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that work or school demanded her time. august/september was a dumb time to open a new game, especially if she wanted a massive flood of apps from the word go, so it's easier to think life got in the way.
Jao didn't quit modding because her setting didn't win, anon. There was a lot of personal stuff going on for her at the time that led to a big decrease in her time. We knew she was leaving well before the last vote went up.
I haven't seen or heard anything from her since she said she was getting sick, either, like her co-mod said, so I'm just hoping nothing bad happened to her.
EDIT: Oh well she plurked about being sick so she's not dead at least. That's good.
