Jesus Christ I hated this attitude so damn much. I had a new character in a horror game where an event resulted in a lot of pc death. They were understandably upset, and utterly horrified that so many people were just "meh whatever they'll be back who gives a shit lol" about their friends and family and mocked my character for worrying.
I could never be a mod, shit like that would make me institute permadeath just to pull the rug out from under everyone.
