handwritten messages only with delays versus a social networking site with likes, emoticons, status updates with many different forms of communication.
handwaved, sure, but a lot of people when handwaving tend to forget it's even there
i dunno about you but i don't tend to send short, pointless messages as much over snail mail. sure some characters might, just to be a dick, but overall that's not going to be as casual communication style as facebook.
have you ever replied to a letter just going "really?"
or is it all just text messaging and email nowadays
(plus the thing about a 'network' with delays is that you're not going to finish a conversation in time before some big event that would probably cut into the chatting time/be worth noting during the conversation, likely, if you're having a long extended discussion...)
the main difference is that my character can squeal over the passenger dragons and maybe start to breed them the way that some people breed pigeons and oh gosh it would be so cute
