i haven't seen any whining either, but it does seem like people are being more intense about opting out than usual. i never noticed people being this vocal about not wanting to participate in an event before. i know there's been events that squicked me out far worse than this and i've been more excited for what I WAS going to do and not what i wasn't.
a simple "I won't be doing the game events" vs. "I CAN'T DO EXTREME TORTURE AND GORE!!!!! OH MY GOD." which is how some people are reacting.
they probably haven't seen ANY on reputation alone judging by the way some of them are reacting to "not being able to handle those films," but i plan on doing a more psychological torment for my character rather than reverse beartrap gruesome violence whatever.
i am kinda worried more people will be amping up the ludicrous violence and won't go for the "punishment tailored towards your sins" aspect of it.
I want to play out something tailored towards my characters sins. If people are just going to do it for the gore and mutilation though? There's not a lot of point in doing that.
except for the aftercare h/c, i guess, but if half of everyone wants nothing to do with the event, most of your cr isn't going to want to deal with you coming to them after the fact and describing your character's limbs being hacked off or their head getting ripped in half. or, you know, them coming out of the event with gruesome wounds.
which is why i'm glad i play a character who will either die in the event and thus no one will see how banged up he gets or deal with the situation privately so i don't have to put my cr/castmates in a position to deal with that shit.
Oddly enough I play a character that would keep any and all injuries to themselves, although I am kind of rooting on him dying. So I honestly wouldn't be playing out the aftercare even if the majority of my cast hadn't opted out.
Assuming it actually goes ahead with my character, i'll probably send a general plurk around to see what my cast would prefer in terms of the outcome. I don't really want to isolate myself from them over a missing limb.
i'm leaning towards dying just because permanent mutilation isn't my strong suit, but whatever trap i choose will probably be closer to walking on dirty hypodermic needles or the barbed wire thing anyway- something painful and awful, but not necessarily geared to make you want to throw up in your mouth at the atrocity.
mostly because i... don't want to write gruesome violence, which is why i'm boggling at people opting out so fast, because there's a lot more than just torture porn potential here.
I'm probably giving myself away but, i'm thinking more along the lines of fire. I really can't write gore without it sounding incredibly stupid, and I don't really see the appeal in everyone losing an arm.
By this point I think part of the problem is SAW literally became known for being the series with the gore and guts. So, a number of people probably know it just for that. And a lot of the trap examples? Were geared towards that gore audience.
As opposed to say, Matthews' test which was literally to sit and talk to Jigsaw for an extended period of time.
I play someone who doesn't have much CR (they're new) and wouldn't tell anyone about this. And I'm super surprised with how many people are nope'ing out of this event to the extent they are on plurk. This is a HORROR GAME.
But anyway, I'll enjoy the event and so will others, so sorry to those who don't find this to be their cup of tea.
Except this isn't a movie with cuts, it's an RP. I would assume that the reason you're playing out a scene like this is to fill in the imagination with writing.
