i really really hate it when someone reserves a character then says "i'm so sorry" or "not even sorry" somewhere after that
like
1. whatever you're apologizing for is usually just some benign character trait like "this character is annoying" "this character is mildly weird" "this character is a TROLOLOLOLOLOL!!" and doesn't matter much since it's easily ignorable
2. probably nobody cares
3. by faux-apologizing you just sound like you're expecting a lot of people to be affected by your character for reasons listed in 1
4. probably nobody cares
5. seriously you're not cute or clever or A TROLL XD
another thing i've seen that's kind of like that that i've come to loathe is "i'm so sorry character a, character b is just bad at people"
because it's always a call to have character a's player come in and shower them with LOL NO BB IT'S COOL and have the rest of the game shake their heads and go N-NO CHARACTER B CHARACTER B STHAP for the billionth time. you'd think they'd get tired of repeating the cycle, but they never do
This isn't a request for buttpats. This is a defence against people with no IC/ooc divide who will decide you hate them of your character doesn't fawn enough or the right way over their spechul snowflake.
i've seen it used for that purpose, too, but not nearly as much as i have for grabbing everyone's attention. ime, it's about the same as the old LOL I RP TERRIBLE THINGS I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON WHY DO YOU LET ME RP song-and-dance.
it's called "i want to start a conversation about this thread we're having and this is an easy in that won't get me accused of being needy or self-absorbed"
