Agree. Admittedly I haven't watched Buffy in years, but from what I remember Spike was a vile piece of shit who eventually came to recognize what a vile piece of shit he was and really struggled to be better without ever letting himself off the hook for the things he'd done. It wasn't perfect, but I always though it was a really well-done, nuanced and moving character arc. Especially for a show like Buffy, which was, let's be honest, never strong on the nuance and self-awareness.
It is possible to write meaningful redemption arcs for characters who have done genuinely terrible, irredeemable things without woobifying them or absolving them. IDK if Spike was a great example of that, but there have certainly been worse.

So what types of Spanish and Portuguese are you interested in? I'm primarily interested in Latin American Spanish because I don't like the pronunciation of Spain/European Spanish (Not fond of the "lisp"), but I'll study vocabulary from multiple regions. I'm not very interested in Portuguese or any of the other Romance languages because I prefer Spanish, but Brazilian Portuguese seems pretty popular to learn.
No worries, I don't assume that any and all polyglots are Benny Lewis-types, I just really don't like people like Benny who "fake it 'til they make it" in order to scam people who are legitimately interested in learning other languages. Nobody would hate on Benny as much as they currently do if he kept his fakery to himself and didn't try to scam people. If he were just some random asshole on the internet who pretends to be fluent in 20 languages after 3 months of studying each language, people would point and laugh at him, but nobody would put any effort into calling him out because he wouldn't be bothering anybody. With his current method, he bullshits people into thinking that they can "HACK!!!" languages ("Hacking" in a non-programming-related sense is becoming one of those words that have lost their meaning, like "problematic") in a couple of months, and when they don't accomplish their goal, they might get frustrated while Benny's scammy ass is running to the bank. Fuck him.
There are millions of websites/blogs/video channels out there where people talk about foreign languages, how their studies are going, advice that you should follow, etc. but I don't have a problem with them because they're not telling people "I became fluent in 3 months! Buy my overpriced book and courses and you too could become fluent in 3 months! You don't need Rosetta Stone and shit when you can buy my garbage!" (He can deny it all he wants, but he's pulled the "You don't need X when you could buy my stuff!" BS.) Duolingo might use crowdsourcing which plenty of people have a problem with, but I don't feel like they're being shady. Companies like Rosetta Stone might be too over-priced, but not all languages have decent audio books and you can easily "acquire" them if you're internet-savvy enough. Benny doesn't fucking offer anything that you can't already find on pretty much any foreign language blog for free.
"Immerse yourself in the language" is common fucking sense and pretty much every language expert would agree that it's the best approach to learning a language. Sure, he compiles a bunch of information into one blog/book, but so do a lot of people. He's even a dishonest fuck about writing his book. Apparently he claimed to have written his book in 3 months... Yeah, 3 months is nothing when you're copying posts that you've been writing for years!

Oh, another good language resource I forgot! http://www.innovativelanguage.com/ or you've probably heard of their main sites which have URLs like ArabicPod101.com or ChineseClass101.com . You don't have to pay for anything unless you want to and they email you new vocabulary words every day for you to study for free! I'm too lazy to count how many languages they have courses for but they have a lot of major languages and only about 3 African languages (Arabic, Swahili, Afrikaans) rather than a shit load like FSI. I honestly haven't actually used much of the Innovative Language sites because I haven't had much time, so I just read the vocab emails, hahah.
