I don't think it's about being pushed to RP so much as it's about suitability of characters for some people. They apped to a game that their characters were suitable for and then the game changed in a way that they might not be. People can drop, but it's disappointing to have to let go of so much CR and such because the mods decided to change the game to this degree without worrying about what the players might want. On a ship, everyone is moving in the same direction and to a common goal and that is a very different game than one that spreads characters out like this, especially as we have a lot of military and espionage types who are exactly the sort of characters who can be boring in a setting like this.
It's the mods' prerogative to do what they want, but I think it's important to keep your playerbase in mind when making decisions.
i get what you're saying, but is there any possibility you could play a manipulative douchebag getting more invested than they meant to be? I could see that happening with some characters of that type and it might be fun and get you what you want.
to be fair, anyone who claims to have done "actual research" and then is like 'oops, i lost it/didn't save it/don't have access to it anymore' is really overstating the legitimacy of what they've done
aww, thanks anon. it's not like the character is inclined to be manipulative or cruel out of the blue; they're a heroic character, just with some flaws.
i used to get to play both sides of that with one of the partners who i felt typecast me. what i think happened was they really liked the h/c aspect of the cr more than the manipulative battle of wills side of the cr, so when they stopped playing the original character i had that dynamic with, we carried on with h/c stuff but it didn't have the same edge to it it had before.
a shame. i miss playing cr that mixed, with both positive and strong negative aspects.
anon, i couldn't dig up for you the papers i did two years ago, much less apparently five according to those citations. the fact we got part of their bib at all should say a lot. you shouldn't believe everything you hear on the internet, but anon wasn't saying anything outrageous and they had at least something to back it up. this isn't "my uncle that works at nintendo"
I'm not saying my character can never lose but the fact that you seem to think he won't fight back at all is really annoying. Your precious character might win but it won't be because mine just let him.
which just goes to show that you're not an actual or serious researcher either
you're an undergrad doing a basic degre just like them. that's fine but don't expect cred like your final paper for your undergrad seminar is serious research
another anon uncomfortable with eye contact for the same reason. when you're raised in a family where making eye contact can instigate someone or make them think you're being aggressive, it's really hard to unlearn.
Most of what was revealed was setting stuff and in the plurk the mods said there lots of metaplot but they wanted to introduce some of the mechanics first. While I get the concern It seems preemptive to assume that the characters no longer have a goal.
