I don't know why you'd go for an "off chance someone knows" instead of asking someone directly if you're worried about them, but sure

It isn't villainous because obviously rp gossip is not some great sin, but acting like it's some pure concern for a friend instead of fishing for some potential juicy drama deets (while potentially also finding out an answer to a genuine question) is kind of a stretch
