It might be because you're focused on the nuances of the curation. Muting and unfollowing and blocking might have different functions but some people don't think of that. They just treat them all the same way as 'I don't want to see a thing' so for them muting/unfollowing/blocking are at the same level. That makes blocking the easiest because you do it just once and never have to see it again.
