Fourth god players have always been bitter and pissy about the Fog god's popularity and now they're getting exactly what they want: major Fog characters are stepping back, going in hiatus, or dropping and the rest of the game is trying to ice them out. Good job guys, you finally managed to eek out a win. 👏

not only do a lot of people not know about it, but even for the ones who are here, making a stand in namespace would be a very transparent "hey I go to wankgate and read pastebins of your locked plurks" confession.

do i, personally, think that's worse than the behavior that started this? no, but there is still a pretty big stigma around actively participating in wg that could follow any uninvolved player trying to "make a stand" around for a while so i don't blame anyone for not wanting both luc's target on their back and a target from all the anti-wankgate people out there.

And where are the other mods in all this? Even if they didn't want to rule on Luc's wanky shit, R's behavior is more evidence on top of a past history of racist bullshit. They have literally run people out of the game, which is the exact thing they're accusing other people of.

That isn't the same as "well the Ryslig players just want to stay out of it and enjoy their monster fun" and these aren't anon mods, so why haven't they bothered to speak up individually? We know who they are and their silence is not a great look. Trying to maintain some kind of united front, if that is what they're doing, just makes the entire mod team look guilty and that is something that will reflect on those individuals themselves.

The problem is that those few turd players happen to be either mods or friends of the mods who are allowed to encourage this sort of hateful behavior with zero consequences.

Look, I agree that it’s ridiculous to paint an entire playerbase of 100+ people as enablers or willing bystanders when most of them aren’t even aware of what’s been going on behind the scenes. Wankgate and anoncomm tends to overestimate how many rpers actually visit and keep up to date with drama - the vast majority don’t care and have no idea who the current wankers are. And in fact a lot of players did step up when R’s first app was submitted and vocally express that it was absolutely not okay and that the app should be rejected point blank instead of just given a revision.

The problem is that games live and die by their mods, and Ryslig’s mods are some of the worst I’ve ever seen. I usually give a lot of leeway to mods because I know firsthand what a thankless and stressful job it can be and that players tend to expect way too much from them, but this behavior is absolutely beyond the pale. It is baffling to me that a mod would ever think it’s acceptable to join in a plurk open to a sizable chunk of their playerbase so they can shittalk their players. It’s baffling that they would think it’s acceptable to share private information players came to them with. I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how they needed to be informed that one of the most blatantly racist apps I’ve ever read should not be accepted under any circumstances, only to accept that app anyway the second their black player dropped despite R making it publicly clear she thought she did nothing wrong. And throughout all this, none of them have shown a single sign of being aware that their behavior is wildly inappropriate.

And I know the standard arguments are that mods are people too and that they don’t speak for the players as a whole, but here’s the thing: mods are also in positions of power, and their actions affect the environment of the game. Your priority as a mod isn’t just to run a fun game but also to keep your game as safe a space as possible for your players, and they’ve done the exact opposite of that. What they’ve done here is create a toxic environment where players feel unsafe to come to them with concerns of harassment or bullying, because they can’t trust that their mods will keep their concerns private instead of just shittalking them to all their friends. They’ve created an environment where bullying is considered okay and even encouraged because their friends know they’ll never face any serious consequences for it. They’ve created an environment where racism is brushed aside despite multiple people speaking up against it, even with someone of that race being targeted. They’ve created an environment where it’s impossible to avoid these awful players if you want to be involved in the meta plot at all because they’ve been around long enough that their characters are entrenched in it, and god forbid any of them dislike your rp because none of them can separate ic and ooc and you’ll be the one on their next 1000+ comment bullying campaign. So yeah, tl;dr until there’s a significant change in Ryslig mods that isn’t just a shitty YouTuber apology before they go straight back to enabling the worst of their players, it’s a pretty irredeemable game.

Honestly you can't really blame them for not taking a stand either because when a stand was taken against R when the whole app controversy was actually current and publicly called out, the mods gave Min the warning and plenty of players had rallied around that and agreed the app was inappropriate.

The mods don't want to change. The game is not going to change because the mods are aware this is happening and they are just waiting for it to go away. The only control uninvolved players have is to sit on their hands and ignore it or drop and go elsewhere where this behavior isn't tolerated.

If the people in the paste aren't welcome here they'll have to leave or start acting right but racism is one of those stinks that rarely goes away as long as someone's left in the community to remember you.

because frankly i've managed to play here for a while without interacting with any of the big names from that plurk. the game has 100 players, anon. it's not hard to avoid that circle.

and let's be honest: museboxes and memes aren't comparable to games at all. 99% of them move at a glacial pace or outright die after a couple months while most of the player involved prioritize their games, and even if they don't they lose a lot of things games have like meeting new people, and mod-run events, and monster assignments if we want to get ryslig specific.

if your stance is "yes, if no action is taken on this people should be willing to drop rather than continue to play here, even if there are no alternatives and dropping would mean giving up a year or more of investment" then just say so, don't act like there's some easy alternative right there that we could all just go to if we weren't too busy asslicking bullies.

correct, but if it was not known, that could change a lot. a black person outraged about racism happening in game should be heard and given a bigger platform. absolutely no one should be silencing black voices. but not knowing about that or not saying that you, yourself, are black and feel unsafe would change the context. im not saying this to blame min or anything like that bc its valid and it was racist, but lacking that context is bad and might have informed some of this shit. like it or not, it would have changed perception.
