former flake here, and the answer is self-delusion. i genuinely wanted to play and thought i could be more active if i tried harder, but eventually i had to rip the bandaid off and quit games.

fun to watch people get butthurt about it

genuinely wanted to play but realized that I wasn't getting the sort of enjoyment out of games I wanted, and quickly would burn out due to boredom. i didn't want to give up because of what little I was keeping up with or enjoyed, but eventually i threw in the towel. memes/psls suit me a lot better because it allows me to really streamline and curate my experience and jump right into things I'd like to do, as well as play around more with settings, character dynamics and ideas. it's made me way less flaky, and taken away the inherent pressure of being in a game and needing to hit certain activity levels to be considered active.

Someone at my game is doing this, has the maximum amount of allowable characters, and constantly plurks about how they're totally doing tags tonight (and then they don't) or about how they're too tired to tag.

And they won't even consider trimming their roster down to one or two characters. IDGI
