TBH Milk had been talking about making this game for awhile and it was not secret. I have no idea if hyperfixating on this game is why they went on hiatus from working on Deer but Milk had always talked like they would be doing both games at once.

no, of course not, but if anything wank has gotten less vicious over the years (i remember a time when people would run here to whine if they found events slightly bland), so it's weird to act like mods are just quaking in their boots about wankgate. we have less mods because we have less players and those players we do have tend to have less time.

she's just an annoying edgelord. i don't hate her but her personality is grating to me and that comes through in her modding and writing style, so i try to avoid her as much as possible.

if had meaningfully modded multiple big games before then you would know the answer to this. it would be VERY OBVIOUS to the point that you couldn't fail to notice it.

since you're obviously misrepresenting your experience level i'll tell you: it's because it takes a lot of additional time and effort to deal with exceptions. one exception is easy. but once you grant it, everyone wants exceptions, and you will look arbitrary and mean accepting some and denying others no matter what your rationale is or how publicly and clearly you explain it. it's less wanky to deny exceptions even when they are minor, because otherwise you get the big wankstorm of "why did X get an exception and I, I mean my friend, didn't?"

if this was a "mistake" situation, maybe a correction would be possible, as long as it was very clear that the issue was "mistake." but that isn't really the issue here. so what's the justification that will allow this exception in without opening the door to everyone else's exceptions?

nfn anon but this whole situation if it happened would have been done in screened comments, so if they granted the request nobody would probably have known about it beside the player and the mods. so the argument that it would mean everyone would try it doesn't hold water because it wouldn't have been a public act anyway.

you could say "what's the harm of just this once?" to pretty much every rule

the problem is that if you make the exception "just this once," you set a precedent. if you can't foresee what kind of trouble such a precedent could invite in a game like dupe, then i implore you to think harder

yeah there were some anons hanging out on here for a good couple of years who seemed to be really buttblasted about milk and her character choices. i still think they were/are probably people who were banned from deer and just wanted to destroy the game in revenge.

that player also contacted the mods before they apped to ask please please please could their character be a submissive because it would be so uncomfortable for them to play a dominant because of past trauma and personal issues (which I can only guess, given the player's incredible social ineptitude, they probably way overshared on)

and the mods told them to go use a door pass

the door pass is clearly there in no small part so that the mods don't have to field a load of players acting like special snowflakes who are going to dump a load of personal overshares on them that they shouldn't have to do the emotional work of fielding

they don't need to read all your personal issues or IC/OOC bleed about why you do or don't want to play a dominant or a submissive and they don't need to make rulings on the basis of whether the case you present is legit. there's a game mechanic built in so that they don't have to field that stuff because players can take responsibility for themselves

some asshole not taking responsibility for themselves and then going to whine to the mods about how uncomfy they are is selfish, entitled bullshit behavior and there should not be a precedent set of the mods rewarding it by giving in to them

you have also never modded before.

player 1 gets the exception in screened comments. it's not public.
player 2 is friends with player 1. player 2 asks for an exception and is turned down. they mention it on plurk. player 1 says "that's weird, the mods let me have an exception for X."

now it's public, and also wanky.
