Seeing corpse mentioned in a thread reminded me about something I always wondered: Does anyone else remember the weird period of time where there were these insane rpa/wg threads about how trigger warnings were for antis and rape/incest shouldn't be warned for because homosexuality doesn't get warned for? I always wondered if that was corpse on anon because this all disappeared suddenly

Gil is charismatically written, he's a very effective villain but he has a sort of "love to hate him" vibe that you usually only get in things like pro wrestling heels. later canon doesn't so much redeem him but makes attempts to flesh him out. a lot of it feels like nasu recognizing he's a better writer now and trying to work in better ways with things he's already got.

the annoying thing is that while Gil is a fascinating character, the same things that make him interesting mean some of the most annoying people in the god forsaken fandom latch onto him, especially now that the more recent canon has given him more obvious internal multitudes so they can project onto him and hold him up as both reflection and aspiration.

he's a gigachad for insufferable dudebros, he's complicated/wounded for "i can fix him" types. he's just got a formula for attracting incredibly annoying fans.

the character isn't even that much of an asshole in canon, he's just your average edgy teenage guy. somehow every time he gets play in dwrp the players decide to turn him into a shithead who hates people and causes trouble.

i'm going to say 90% of mcu characters, not because they're insufferable but because they're all somehow boring as fuck despite being awesome superheroes. it's like playing against a piece of cardboard shaped like something cool but it's still just a piece of cardboard.

Because Neth is the kind of person who has to have something other players aren't permitted to have to reinforce that her character is The Most Special. It probably doesn't get much deeper than that.

i've played with multiple mcu players and can't think of a single thread where i was excited or interested in their characters at all, and i'm a fan of most of the movies

i would be very happy if i didn't have to see another mcu character ever again anywhere. boring on top of being cliquey.

She may have just wanted a sparklecat with the implied security of shields, or something she could blab on and on about what it could do in game that makes it a really cool ESA compared to pets that are, well, Not Allowed in game but here she is with one. But following her BS claiming it's a magical construct, she could swap it out for the other Summons under the pretense it's the carbuncle construct with a different shape. In the end, the mod dodged a bullet.
