I play from a canon that seems to love retconning and completely rewriting every character's backstory to include the shiny new lore hooks every few years. The last time I thought my character was safe, only for a surprise [character]-centric comic to drop. I had to scrap and retcon a plot I had going on at the time and it soured me on a bunch of older plots and threads I used to love because all of it was non-canon now. It's not that I feel like I have to be canon compliant, either. The new lore genuinely does have good stuff I wanna play with, but most of the time it contradicts the old canon or my own headcanons way too much to try and mix them, and because they're retcons I can't just pick an older canonpoint. It's a pain.

Over time though I've learned to stop giving a shit. They introduced time travel to the plot so that's my explanation for everything now lol.

why would anyone bother doing that

Lmao that's certainly not true. Tifa has been running people out of games as recently as a year ago.

Ironically as a Zuko player I am wary of playing with Azulas who expect to be seen/handled like the above, and will never take him from the end of the show/post-canon for that reason.

playing a fairly obscure character who got a bunch of new material from a different author that gave him completely contradictory motivations for his actions lol. It made him enough of a different character to integrate the new stuff that I just ended up making a separate account.

I consider them different interpretations, enough to write separate apps tbh. I just deal with it comics style by listing out what material each draws from.

anyone who wants to play azula OR zuko as an uwu soft child pls pat my head or be seen that way needs to have that character taken away from them.

like i get azula had the breakdown but she was still just as dangerous and conniving in the aftermath and zuko doesn't really show his soft side ever

+1 or just wait until canon has gotten a good way into the plot to start rping from it because while it's not impossible that they'll pull a last-minute plot twist, it's a lot less likely than it is if you start playing from a canon when it's just getting started.

if i'd started playing my character two story arcs ago when they were first introduced i would've been boned because it turns out that they've been a focal character in the current story arc and so a lot has come out about them that i would never have guessed about earlier.

to be the most pedantic of pedants, That Usagi isn't playing Usagi. they're playing Princess Serenity and that makes it even worse.

i have a gut feeling my character's (previously unrevealed) sexuality is going to be exposed in an upcoming installment and if it's not bi, i'm going to be mad because the ota life is so cash money when it comes to having chemistry with everybody.

this will make me obvious to anyone who knows me, but i used to play a character who was revealed to have actually been a dog reincarnated as a person the entire time - 7 years after the original show ended. i had an interesting few days sorting out my feelings on that

oh man, i don’t know you but i know exactly what canon(s) you’re talking about. i’m still not over it ten years later, i can’t imagine how much worse it would’ve been to rp the character in question. that was truly a wild ride
