i rlly hate when you tag someone, you ask if they would be okay with said tag from said character (i just ask out of politeness. it's practically engrained in me by now. it's also easy to work out details that way) they give an enthusiastic "yea sure!" i write up a roleplay starter for them, post it and then they never reply back to it. just a little discouraging that this shit happens all the time

like i would rather you straight up tell me you aren't interested in my character than ghost me

nah. i've come across this with a handful of players that i think either don't know how to say no to cr they don't really want, or who get intimidated by something. i've had this happen myself and seen the back and forth with others and some of the starters i've seen have been amazing and i'd be happy to get them myself.

i like to think that my writing is fairly decent so not sure it's that tbh. i always let the other player know that if the starter isn't good i can always change it for them

it's the ghosting that really annoys me. again i would rather the other person dm me and go "hey i don't think this is going to work out" which has happened before and i'm grateful they actually take the time to message me vs just outright not replying back

that could be true in op's case but let's not even try to pretend that bakerstreet isn't the ideal place for flakes to post just by its nature

if there's no pressure to tag back, and indeed pressuring anyone would be considered rude to psychotic there, what does someone who just likes to fantasize about threads without actually writing them have to lose?

this has happened to me and i've also been on the other side of it

the process for me usually goes something like this:

meme goes up during lunch at work (for instance), i like it so i top level
someone replies an hour or so after or longer asking if i'm ok with their character
i reply to that a few hours later because i've been busy saying yes
by now it's the evening and i'm tired from the day
i get a starter during the evening or even overnight
by the time i see it it's a new day and i'm distracted by work, i'm busy, or i've lost the energy or impulse for the thread

the thing is if in the above example the person who tagged me had just gone with it and tagged me immediately with a tag or a starter we could have had an actual thread

my pro tip is to stop asking "is it ok to tag with this character" and just do it, you're not getting replies anyway so you might as well try and see if it improves your tag rate

if they don't offer anything, like ideas or things they don't want or any useful input other than "yeah i want to thread," on bakerstreet that means there's a 70% chance you're wasting your time on either a pillow princess or someone whose preferred cock is in another castle. don't write starters for people who offer nothing and you'll magically stop running into flakes and [moans] tags.

idk about cringe but most of the talk on there comes from a gaggle of about 10 or so players that just shoot shit about miscellaneous non-rp things or yell about their tags/cr. every now and then some other people briefly stick their heads in. mod sometimes emerges to also shoot shit or answer questions or debunk wild theories people come up with about the npcs

sometimes you also get to see that the mod's getting ready to process apps or deciding when the next tdm's dropping or whatever, and that's neat enough to know. game-related questions do get answered there more often too (as opposed to the in-game faq, where it's kind of 50/50 whether the mod will actually remember to answer you there), so i keep an eye on it in the background for that too

but yeah tbh i find i get way more productive plotting done on plurk than the discord. it's mostly just qol reading, i barely ever talk in there myself. so you're not missing out on a ton by not joining, aside from being likely to ask the mod repeat questions they've already gotten on the discord maybe

this is what game discords are always like, just scale up or down how many people are in the "constantly chatting and oversharing about random shit" group

the biggest game discord i'm in right how hardly has any actual talk about the game itself, it's just become a place for people to post photos of their pets

consensus: all game discords are cringe

gladder than ever ive never bothered with them tbh

i'll be honest, one of the good sides to the sail discord is that at least some people know how to use the thread function to avoid shitting up main channels. not everyone, but like when people decide to do tarot readings for characters or talk about certain pockets of cr, you'll get a quick mention and then a link through to the thread instead of clogging the general chat.

all discords with more than 10 people in them are cringe if you actually look at them for chat reasons instead of just using them for organizing, imo

i'm in a bunch of them for fandom/games/rp and the offtopic channels are overshare central on every single one
