I don't know, I think getting around this part is a lot easier than the sparkledogs. A lot of games that do allow powers just limit gamebreaking ones, like completely nerfing teleportation, dimensional shifting, etc etc and that seems to work fine.

horror games should be short-term only. otherwise characters just become numb to all of the trauma and it's not fun to play anymore.

i have a few of super powered characters but like vampires their powers are also a source of their suffering so i hate having them nerfed for that reason. not because they get to win fights or whatever. their canon is often actiony anyway and it bores me to RP fight scenes. i just want to play stupid interpersonal drama + unexpected difficulties because powers.

I don't know about permanently, but off the top of my head:

that's power loss. op was complaining about power loss and people were pointing out that it generally exists for a reason.

like, i play a heal guy. if someone gets hurt, he's going to heal them, but that takes all of the tension out of games when he's allowed to have his full powers because why worry about being injured when someone can just fix you up good as new right away?

more specifically, it's a reference to deerington implementing a rule that a character will be gored by a deer for attempted noncon in response to how a rape plot (involving kilgrave, jessica jones, and i think supergirl) was handled in quiet place, a game based on the movie of the same name that died pretty much overnight because of poor handling from the mods to said plot.

basically it reinforced the notion that rape plots should never be allowed in games. deerington was more or less created as a result of the way quiet place blew up.

this is also why i think kilgrave should be a "ban on sight" character for anyone trying to app him. the only reason most people seem interested in playing him is to play out rape fantasies, which is technically fine, your kink is not my kink, but don't make game plots around it.

wasn't it pedro who played katara so bad that the a:tla cast couldn't take it anymore, so the mods had him retcon her into being an oc who just had katara's memories? or was that someone else?

I still have never seen her say anything hateful, it was always just acknowledging biological sex as a real thing and wanting sex-segregated spaces like prisons to continue to exist for women’s safety because there HAVE been multiple violent prisoners claiming trans identity and raping female inmates while guards do nothing.

I still don’t get how that’s hateful or transphobic.

Why can’t trans prisoners continue to just be kept in high security areas like homosexual inmates to protect them from cis prisoners who might target them otherwise? Or even a third separate facility?

I feel like a lot of people say she’s said awful hateful things but I never see actual examples or screenshots of anything that isn’t just those points.

sexual violence isn't about biology, gender or physical parts, it's about power. and if you start talking about pregnancy risks from prison rape, I have news for you about prison guards.

i dunno, anon. i don't think it's uniformly true that all tension would get sapped away.

granted, this assumes players will act in good faith, but characters with normal brains should still worry about getting injured because pain HURTS. plus there's an opening for horror there, in that healing powers can take away the pain but not the memory of being injured, which is often a traumatic experience in and of itself.

besides, as the heal guy, you have to exercise some basic creativity to get around the "he would just heal everyone" problem in the first place. maybe his healing powers cost mana and he exhausts himself. maybe he doesn't check the network or otherwise become aware of people who need healing. and just because he would ICly heal people, that's not a guarantee that the players OOCly want your guy to heal their blorbos; it's hard to play out h/c without injuries if one doesn't want to go with the psychological horror angle, as just one reason.

as for superpowered characters who would be ultra committed to trying to break the setting with said powers, well, they may not be a good app choice to begin with and i wish those players were better at self-regulating.
