it's because ffxiv is massively popular. the rabid and overly defensive fans have always been there, it's just that with everyone and their mom now into it, it's now noticeable. especially when big streamers take a crack at it and everyone opens their mouth to share their opinions whether or not anyone wants to hear them.

i've just been aggressively blocking people on twitter who seem to just live for getting mad about their hot takes and it's made my ffxiv fandom experience so much better.

i don't think you are, it's just that the writing for her arc in stb is not good imo and seems to be a miss instead of a hit for a lot of people. there's a lot of talking about and assumption of the player's feelings towards her, but not really enough much showing in game to back up what its telling us.

personally i'm lukewarm about her in stb, but i feel that her writing gets better after that expansion.

i'm with you on most of these but "a character who's had a full arc can't develop anymore so they should be switched out for bit part characters who were never interesting in the first place" would probably attract a lot of flack, you're right, because it's stupid

i agree that the state of the xiv community is like every other one that gets huge with regards to overly defensive and vocal fans

but i would say that these days you actually see more people be critical of HW, especially after since Ishikawa has more or less been critical of it as well

the reason people love HW has less to do with the story being spectacular, but has entirely to do with the fact that it’s the first expansion post ARR. everyone who has been around since ARR can probably remember all the criticism that ARR’s story got back then and the fact that Yoshida was going around on forums, in LLs, interviews, basically anywhere trying to make clear that he wanted to build trust with the community and that he was taking criticism very seriously to that end.

post-ARR and HW is where most people agree that the story starts to become Hype. it became the foundation for how they would treat story telling in XIV going forward and that’s why people love it.

Just pointing it out due to the original comment. Also, looking at the wiki, she's 16 in the first Symphonia. Lots of chars played, even in smut memes, are that age because of how popular series work. So I kinda got to wonder if there's just bad blood here.

I'm not convinced Yoshiwara was Gsai, though. His characters didn't get to be big and important and he's obsessive enough that he would have kept the game running longer than three months.

My guesses were actually Snow and Sisi, a specific OC player (a DWRP non-entity), and/or a specific idol boy player (another DWRP non-entity). They were all there from launch, active in the discord, and the idol boy player made a ton of typos the same way the mod account did.

I get this. My RP partners for anything PSL know I can go 2 weeks between tags due to RL. It was discussed beforehand, or when it changed I let them know they were welcome to drop the thread. Yet if it wasn't discussed or a quick "Hey, this came up and I'll be slow for X amount of time, so do what you need," I would totally get being dropped! And I'll even give them extra time because yeah, sometimes one has to reread.
