It was most likely ruled "an accident" for the family's sake. Like another anon said, you don't walk into the woods during a blizzard in light clothing unless you are at minimum unwell. Fin was also deadnamed and old pronouns were used in articles. I don't think the parents really understood or were prepared to deal with everything Fin was going through, which is how Second was able to swoop in. I don't remember Second's age but she had a school age daughter and Fin was only 17. Second was full of herself and tried to say how much she was "helping" Fin but no one here bought it.
