the application is supposed to be your "audition" for the game. but apps have become meaningless when everyone just reuses the same apps over and over again. they don't really tell you anything about how a person will actually rp in your game. there are some terrible rpers in this hobby who have managed to put together a halfway decent app and get into games based on that alone.
asking someone to actually post and tag on the tdm works much better as a way of testing if they will be a good fit in terms of how they handle the setting and playing with other people. i would love to see more games require a tdm thread as part of the app process if not making it a requirement for an invite.
