I just went to doublecheck, it's two threads (with some branches) in a 160+ comment post, some of which was characters reacting or moving the conversation off the original post

but yeah, huge disruption. lol.

let’s be honest, the overgrown, 49-something-year-old babies in this hobby don’t like villain characters.

everyone on here only roleplays for their stupid ships and polycules, nothing else

The BeYond
If your character is gonna start some shit with another character, make sure their player is okay with it first

The BeYond
Permission posts are a very helpful guideline, but I wouldn't assume that being down with negative CR gives carte blanche, so we wanted to specify the focus on communication first just so it was clearly stated.

Yeah so for those

Oh yeah, he and lil are both idiots, and neither should be modding. I know lil got in because she's yon's waifu and i doubt anyone else wanted to join the mod team with yon once he'd shown some ass, but imagine letting yon on a mod team

running with this, but isn't the whole 'opt-in' idea insane?

like it's not enough that you app to a game with all the stated and implied rules thereof, and made a permission post, and give people the opportunity to opt out if they want?

no, in this world, you need to explicitly opt-in to playing with other people. your character wants to say something that isn't bland agreement with another one? better obtain explicit permission! oh, and that explicit permission only covers that one instance, gotta ask every time you want to tag in a way that could potentially lead to, gasp, a disagreement!

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2024-10-07 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
there are some things i believe should be opt in only, like a walking trigger character a la the rapist guy from jessica jones, or discussions of other very sensitive topics. i play a character who attempted suicide in the past, and if it seems like it's going to come up in a thread, i reach out to the other player even if they haven't commented to my opt out or listed suicide as off limits in their permissions. but the idea that even the most mundane ic aggression should be opt in only and you must ask oocly before your character can call another a bitch is way beyond reasonable to me.

Are you all high? This seems completely reasonable.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2024-10-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, was just about to say this. there are certain topics that by default shouldn't be brought up casually in threads unless you know the other player is down with it.

true. not to diminish exceptions, there are definitely some characters who should be opt-in (though not many of them are really ones that fit a game well, imo). as time has passed players are also better about content-warning their tags too.

but generally 'apping to the game' is your opt-in for everyone you don't explicitly opt out of. apparently that's not good enough if someone could be mean to a laby mod's character. better keep your curated list of people who are explicitly okay with you tagging them! no, wait, better ask each time you tag them in case THIS time your character might hurt their fee-fees.*

*this is actually what laby mods and some anons demand

slippery-sloping: better be sure to keep the receipts too! do you know a notary, perchance?

having to contact the other player oocly every time you want to disagree icly with their character?

My friends will take on new characters and then just leave empty top levels everywhere and never tag out. Your canonmates are right there. What are you all doing? Stop waiting to be tagged and go have fun.

I wish I could play matchmaker and just shove together characters with empty tls.

"permission posts are meaningless. you must get explicit permission any time your character might do something that can be construed as negative each and every time."

totally reasonable. and yes, this is what they are asking. your character can't tell another character they're being dumb unless you have specific permission. that counts as 'starting some shit' after all, especially if the character being dumb is a mod character.

and yes, i 100% believe that this rule will be applied harshly and without reason to anyone the mods want it to. your character mentions their pet puppy? oh turns out that their character lost a puppy and how dare you start shit with them by dragging their face in that? doesn't matter what the permission post says or what history the characters have had together, you've done wrong.

once again, even if you choose to ignore the idea that permission posts are required yet also worthless, you are not considering the context of "freeze a thread without communication, then require a character get opt-in from everyone".

Re: ayrt

'make sure their player is okay with it first, don't assume being down with negative CR gives carte blanche' would be reasonable if it was in the context of something crazy like a character crashing the wedding and stealing the ring, not simply being mean to another character on a network post

Re: MEME PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2024-10-07 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
i tag out when i can, but i have reasons for not tagging out/"ignoring" castmates on the same memes, like

- i know who the player is and i don't like their writing
- no permissions post (goes double if it's a shipping meme, triple if the canon/characters have divided fan opinions)
- they have a permissions post but we have conflicting prefs
- i've seen the account around and know they don't tag back
- it's me. i play both sides of a ship i like and i am not tagging myself
- did not see their comment because i don't always comb through memes before i top level and am unlikely to return to the meme if i don't get any tags
- don't feel like writing a starter

i hope this helps you understand your friends

+1, what is with games being allergic to negative CR lately? First, expiation and now lab.

If you don't want neg CR, don't join games where people app all different types of characters. Go to bakerstreet or do PSLs.
