Pretty sure it's about reposting way too quickly. There was a road trip meme posted with another road trip meme on the same page. It's down now, but, I think there was that random sex scenario meme that had been reposted after four or five days.
I don't have screencaps, but the bitching was taking place in the random sex meme itself.
Bakerstreet these days is just a hive of too many people acting like a little politeness and decency would be a whole lot of skin off their noses.
When it comes to people saying "just scroll" past stupidly frequent reposts, all they're really saying is "idgaf about anyone else here but me."
If people just conducted themselves with some basic fucking etiquette then a whole fuckton of Bakerstreet's problems would sort themselves right out. "Just scroll" was never meant to mean you have carte blanche to act like an antisocial dickwad with no consideration for anyone you cross paths with. People need to get a fucking clue and realize that.
But if people didn't want to play in those reposts, they wouldn't play in them. But they do.
If your problem is other people dropping threads you want to continue when a new post goes up, you should directly contact them, and tell them you want to continue the thread, IMO.
On the other hand, if somebody wanted to drop a thread because they thought it was boring, they'd probably drop it whether a new post was up or not.
The point is that the memes don't need to be reposted so often. The old one doesn't disappear after a day. It doesn't go bad. It's still there, and you can still tag into it, so posting a new one for the sake of having a new one is ridiculous and just encourages players to be flaky magpies flocking to the new shiny.
Someone makes a point about basic politeness not hurting anyone and you avoid that point to rehash some head-up-the-ass drivel about people dropping threads.
I never said anything about thread dropping.
So basically, what we can take from this is that you can't actually think of a justification for mannerless inconsiderate behavior besides "fuck you, I do what I want" and are trying to avoid facing up to the part where you act like a rude and selfish twat.
No part of what you said actually changes the fact that some basic politeness wouldn't hurt you, and you acting like consideration for others is some kind of unreasonable request says quite a lot about what kind of a person you are.
It's cool that you have a really in depth AU involving your character and mine, but I have no idea who you are and I know nothing about the AU so if you throw it at me on a meme I'm not really gonna know how to respond.
I've been tagged by people who are apparently canon characters but they have no info or even a name on their journal so I have no idea how to react when they post something where their character knows who mine is. Information is important, people.
Then go make one for yourself and the butthurt babies like you. Gen will never be as popular as shipping and smut. We all get our fill of playing gen out in our games with continuity, where it's not just boring pointless fluff that goes nowhere.
I hate when meme makers forget that the point of a meme is role-playing, not showing off their attempts at graphic design. I don't care if you have pretty pictures, embedded sound files, or enough graphical divider bars to make a geocities page proud, if I can't read it I'm sure not going to play in it.
also YOU FUCKERS NEED TO SET THE TEXT COLOR EVERY TIME YOU SET A BACKGROUND COLOR
dreamwidth has light on dark site schemes and your fancyass layout will be impossible to read if you just assume the text will be black by default
It's a peeve, I know, but when I have to highlight the entire page just to read wtf is on their pretty pretty background, that's just retarded and defeats the purpose.
If the explanation is smalltext on a red background that I have to scroll through a tiny box under a manic twitching gif to read, I'm not even going to bother.
Pretty fonts are fine. Graphics in moderation are even better. But you're not going to win a web design award for the most bestest first page on a meme, so why not devote your twitchy little fingers to coding layouts or something?
I don't know if this is a peeve as such, but I've noticed that in memes with victim/aggressor options everyone wants to be the victim. Are there really no dominant characters at bakerstreet?
Most people at Bakerstreet want their action (and especially smut) handed to them. By being the victim (or their perceived function of the receptive partner in smut) they feel that they do not have any responsibilities for carrying the thread.
90% of my characters are aggressors, which is why I don't post them. Anytime I've put them up, I've been swarmed with characters I just don't want to play with. So I'll go through and see who's up that I want to play with, if at all.
This is something I've found happens with most dominant characters. I don't particularly like playing D/s, but I find my characters constantly getting slotted in that role, because there really is an abundance of subs.
I'd love to play a dominant vs. dominant character pairing. The powerplay would be way more interesting to me. Subsequently, I'm almost tempted to request a sub vs. sub role, if only to see which one lays there moaning and doing nothing the most.
This is why I always look at memes and shy away from posting. Either my ...penetrative? character (aggressor, maybe; he tends to be dominant, but not in the D/s sense) gets swamped with passive receptive characters or my receptive gets ignored.
Which I don't blame people for. A starter is not really condusive to proving that while, yes, my character is receptive, he's also very actively involved. As I've put it to people, he gets off getting his partner off.
