making icons for a character who has most of their face covered, so it's hard to convey particular expressions

i came across someone with really nicely colored manga icons for a pretty obscure character that they presumably either put hard work into or commissioned with how small the fandom is

they were all 90x90

like, i guess you can do what you want with your own icons, but i don't get it, especially if it's literally just live action caps.

I understand it if and only if the icons were a gift or a commission. Those are the only reasons I can respect for requesting that people not take your icons

because they want to be Unique and recognized by their Unique icons, sometimes with the side motivation of being afraid that if their Unique icons are taken it will be by someone who sucks at the character and will confuse people into thinking that they too suck at the character

I only put 'do not take' on icons I paid for. But if someone where to ask politely (I play live action) I wouldn't mind giving permission.

please stop using photoshoots and promo pics for icons. you're basically using modelface and it never has any relation to any facial expression that you're trying to portray in your tag.

if you're playing a character that's LA and has plenty of icons made, please take the time to either hunt down actual scene icons for them or make some yourself from screencaps if you really must. nothing makes me hate a thread more than tag after tag with different same model-face no expression icons, or worse, ones where they look like they're obviously at a photoshoot all prettied up with their hair blowing when they're in a thread about violence or something. please just stop.

modelface bothers me too but this still reads to me like "whaaa imagining is harrrrd"

it's not about imagining. it's about having a character like dean winchester with half their icons from promo shoots and model shoots. why would you think that's a good idea for a character who can be as expressive as he can?

it happens more with female characters, but i've seen it happening more with male ones and it's just annoying. there are plenty of icons that have them involved and doing more than staring with dead-eyes at the camera. try using those.

Honestly, if they're a good rper, I don't give a damn myself.

but when you're stuck with just 15 icons, a nice neutral face to default to is sometimes necessary. obvsly its gonna get weird if it's, say, captain america... but if its an obscure/less popular canon, eh...
