Nope! I might get a little disappointed. I do get more disappointed, however, if I try to tag them more than once and never get a tag back, or get a tag and then a promptly dropped thread.

I do get a little buttpained when I see a person around a LOT in memes and they seem to never respond to any tags, or consistently only tag one person who responds to them, or have one or two threads they drop and don't bother to tag any of the other people. But that's mostly a mix of selfish disappointment and "wtf why are you wasting people's times if you don't ever actually do meme threads?"

use tags, that's what tags are for. what really annoys me is when someone has their character in multiple games and has separate posts for each of them, but doesn't tag any of them for each game. if you did, then you could just have a single sticky that links each game's relevant tag.

not wanting the scrollbar is kind of stupid, though. that's cleanliness overriding function, to me. personally, i never really cared much about them aside from wondering "why would someone even do that" until a castmate got one. they really are kind of terrible design.

I figure there's hair down there unless the other player makes a point of mentioning their character's shaved or waxed or whatever, so I don't bother bringing it up.

i like infomodding and i think it's necessary in rp.

i don't mean the "he's a villain, i can feel it!" type of shit that spoils someone else's gameplay, but i deliberately include things about my character's past or actions in my tags so that the other player can pick up on them if they want.

in most rp settings, especially with castmates, the characters are going to have more information about each other than the players do. castmates typically have tons of shared experiences that are only touched on or alluded to in canon. there's also a visual/interpersonal element ic that's lacking ooc because rp is text-only interaction. yeah, you could write "she fidgeted with the hem of her skirt" but unless there's plenty of canon evidence that this is what she does when she's upset, i think it's in an rp setting it's reasonable to write it like "she fingered the hem of her skirt the way she always did when she was upset" or "remembering her dead brother, she idly toyed with the hem of her skirt."

the character has access to all kinds of "real world" information that doesn't explicitly come across in a text-based medium unless you deliberately include it. i don't know why people hate this so much.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
they might have thought your writing was boring. running in to a character on accident is pretty standard shit, but i can still think of things off the top of my head to do to spice it up. maybe their character could have been holding a hot cup of coffee, something breakable, maybe they dropped their fancy amazing magical girl weapon, maybe their character could have grilled yours for info, if it was an intro log.

it's likely they just weren't trying, either because they didn't like your character, didn't like you, or because they're one of those players who expects everyone to do all the work for them. they want you to act so they can react, and that's all they know how to do.

Honestly? You kind of gave them a boring tag. Realistically speaking, 95% of people would apologize and keep right on going to their destination. Bumping into a stranger doesn't usually result in lasting bonds, and it's not like the other character can read your character's mind and be like, "hmm, he's standing there and thinking about me, I should probably say something." That's not how interaction works. You didn't give them a reason to stop and talk to your character at all.

They could have picked up the thread from there, but speaking for myself, I would have dropped it because I would have immediately assumed I was going to end up carrying the whole thing, and ain't nobody got time for that.

same. unless someone says otherwise, i always assume there's body hair. that's just what my mind fills in for me

Re: unpopular opinions

it would only be infomodding if the other character immediately responded with HMMM IT SEEMS YOUR BROTHER HAS DIED

them responding with something like 'oh hey are you nervous/upset?' after seeing that character fidget wouldn't be infomodding, it'd be reading body language

This.

I play a character who's had a very tough life so realistically they should honestly be more prepared for things than MOST of the people around them, but they're human so they still make mistakes and get flustered/surprised/outsmarted/what have you and I play that up because I really enjoy playing them out of their element.

But then it gets frustrating because so many characters who may or may not be more on-the-ball than they are are being played as constantly having the upper hand in every situation with them. It's not that I don't enjoy my character being an underdog or making a fool of themselves from time to time, but when it's all the time the fun goes away.

It's worse when the CR started out genuinely fun and you don't mind a bit of that dynamic but the person just won't let up ever.

My character is HUMAN, not a 24-7 mistake machine for yours to smirk at and walk all over. Pretty sure your character is a lot less experienced and hardened than mine is in canon, anyway.

i would agree with you, anon, but i've seen people call "infomodding" and whining about it over the smallest of rational conclusions based on stuff like the example above, so now i never know where the line is.

I actually really agree with this and the asspain you've caused is hilarious.

The other anon below you seems to communicate the same message in a way that's more tittybaby-friendly.

seeing a character is upset from cues in body language or tone is cool, but immediately knowing why they're upset without asking isn't cool

"you look upset! are you okay? are you getting over a loss of some kind? a parent, or a sibling?" is not ok, because who the fuck jumps to that oddly specific conclusion?

"you look upset! are you okay? did you flunk a test? do you have a flat tire?" is ok

doesn't seem to have one, judging by the game's taken list. contact is through pms to the character journals.

then there's probably the a word that we can't say here anymore

and i don't mean that as a pejorative

but there is a disproportionate number of people here who have a lot of trouble reading visual cues and connecting them to other concepts (general emotional state, comfort with the environment, etc.)

i think that accounts for a lot of the ic/ooc miscommunication when it comes to body language and expressions and why icons with very basic expressions (as opposed to icons that convey a general mood state) are preferred

correction: lots of people from england call themselves british

i don't see it as much with people from scotland and wales, and obviously irish people aren't from britain so.

Re: op

you can say it if you're not insulting someone with it.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah it's the presumption of motives/intent that makes it infomodding

if someone's being fidgety, most people are going to assume they're either nervous or they need to pee or their clothes are too tight or something along those lines

it is impossible to reasonably assume that dead brother memories are the source of apparent physical discomfort

They called some of the other revealed forme changes "new Pokémon" too. Also considering the next movie is Genesect VS Mewtwo, it makes sense for them to be taking the opportunity to market the next gen gimmicks. So all signs point to a mewtwo forme, not a whole separate Pokémon.
