A woman Doctor will never happen, because lady Gallifreyans have a different regenerative process (...except for River, apparently?), suggesting some sort of fundamental biological difference that can't be overcome. The best they could do there is switch the focus from the Doctor to another character. Or bring back what's-her-name.
