but my point was that you can't dictate to someone what their character can and cannot do.
yes, you can in some cases. if i'm playing a character who in canon has the ability to nullify say fire damage, then i can tell someone that their fire-based attack isn't going to be able to hurt my character. why should i have to change a canon fact about my character just so that someone else can get to play with their character's powers? no one character is going to be all-powerful and able to overpower every other character they encounter. sometimes they're going to go up against someone and they're going to be at a disadvantage.
saying that no one else can ever be able to nullify or resist your character's powers is just as much godmoding as saying that your character can nullify everyone's powers.
Did you guys forget that the power cap in Luceti cuts character's abilities by 50% at least?
Then there's the fact that if the player wants it, the power cap can further limit super powerful characters or cut off portions of their powers altogether if they'll potentially be problematic for the player or plotting. It's designed to level the playing field and make it more interesting for the players. You see it done by people who play godmode characters plenty.
It's boring to have a ultra powerful character win everything every time, so of course characters who are more powerful are going to be asked to stand down and not one KO their way through a big plot.
IC=/=OOC. If we don't pace what our characters can do in game, we'll just end up with people acting shounen hero in every plot and a bloody wankfest.
that's a very black and white situation though. that's the same as a wizard using an anti magic zone to nullify other wizard's spells. of course the fireball is going to be diffused, it's hitting an anti magic zone. it's just common sense. i'm more referring to things that are in the grey area, like when i used that example before about Storm. (yes, i understand the point is moot now for the plot in question, so let's pretend the plot isn't in the cards in this explanation.) they both can do things with the weather. it's not fair to go to Storm's mun and say "you can't do anything about the weather because it's my plot and i said so" (i'm not saying that's how it went down, but in general.)
it's much more fair to say "my character can do this, and i know your character will probably try to do something against that, want to talk about it and plot it out? make it a struggle and create obstacles and challenges that make this fun for you and myself!"
and to the anon that mentioned the 50% power cap, you're right, and it's best i think to communicate between muns on the matter of powers and what they've restricted themselves to and what they haven't.
yes, it is fair, because it's their plot and if a certain character's abilities would ruin the entire plot and not give anyone else the chance to do anything, that's not fair to all of the other people who want to participate.
this isn't an official game event. the player running a player plot has the right to pick and choose what characters get to be involved in it, for example things like the xion plot ages ago where only a certain number of characters got to fight her at each stage. when you play an extremely powerful character, you have to be ready for the fact that sometimes you're not going to be able to participate in things like that for the sake of making it fair for everyone else. otherwise only the powerful characters would ever get the spotlight in anything.
and that's understandable when you are dictating who you are allowing into the plot. but if you allow someone who plays a powerful character in, or maybe not even powerful but has an ability that can really effect the plot, you should be reaching out to them to ask questions and work things out if you're willing to have them be involved. if they won't budge on their character's powers, then fuck them, they don't need to be in the plot as far as i'm concerned because it would ruin it for everyone. but at least have the common courtesy to talk it out with them instead of just dictating to them that they are powerless. work out between the two of them who wins the struggle, whether it be the villain or the good guy coming out on top.
But...isn't that a lot of what's going on in that plotting post? After looking through it, I haven't seen Masa telling anyone "No you can't do this because I said so." I've only seen him questioning Ganon doing things in his own favor because there's no canon basis for it or because it's not IC.
I'm honestly not sure what you're arguing about anymore.
