not whiteknighting him, but there's a frightening amount of people who think that if a woman isn't clawing and fighting her way out of bed, then it's not really rape. thoughtlessness and ignorance is no excuse, but it is why rape culture is more than just nefarious villains who twirl their mustaches in between attacks on random strangers.
I don't really get what you're saying. I quoted Funk himself directly- to share an uncomfortable detail, he threatened his girlfriend with violence if she did not comply with what he wanted, then raped her. That's hardly 'ignorant' and 'thoughtless', as he claims it was.
I understand that situations like the one you mentioned do exist, but what Funk did does not fall under that category, despite how he claims otherwise.
It didn't 'come about', it's always been there. After the victim repeatedly told him 'no', he aimed a punch at her head and landed it right next to her ear, which terrified her from trying to resist any more. She did not have the means to escape- he's a very physically imposing guy irl. What you've written sounds like the usual false, painted up excuse Funk feeds his friends for pity, but he's deceived you too. This wasn't a misunderstanding and coercion. This was a victim repeatedly saying no and then being threatened to have the shit beaten out of her. He is utter scum.
You sound (to an alarming degree) exactly like Funk himself. The 'twirling moustache' thing is something he has repeatedly used in the past. If you are, then fuck you, you spineless fucking coward.
If not, my apologies, but your metaphor is phrased exactly the same way he's phrased things in the past, and the thought of him commenting here and whiteknighting himself is just shudder-inducing. I really hope you're not him.
no, i'm somebody who just massively misread the situation. when i heard that he blamed it on ignorance and thoughtlessness, i assumed that the rape involved coercion and emotional manipulation more than violence, because boy i've met a lot of creepy motherfuckers who think that those methods are totally kosher.
