I know this is a hate comm, but anon, where have you been? Almost since the movie was announced, it's been the Winter Soldier story. Which has always involved Bucky, Steve, and Natasha. This isn't news.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
very old news. Meanwhile, I just wish I could stop cringing every time I see mentions of Sharon. Cripes, I really wish they'd ignored her completely in the movie-verse.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't. do you really want to leave the door wide opn for stonyshippers?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think the movie-verse is ready to go that way in canon. The only thing a canon Sharon will do to the stonyshippers is give them someone to bash because she's so mean to Steve (absolutely unrelated to whether she is portrayed that way or not in movie canon). It's not as if Pepper stopped them. Shippers gonna ship regardless of canon.

Personal opinion only, I've just always found Steve/Sharon a bit of a creepy idea. I can kind of gloss over it in the comics. The movie did a really good job with making Peggy real and a part of the story though and now I just find the idea of Sharon being directly blood related even more of an ick factor. Feels too much like dating the daughter because you can't have the mom. I'm hoping the franchise can pull it off somehow so it feels normal but, wistfully dreaming, I'd rather they hadn't tried at all.

THIS.

It really actually is creepy the more you think about it. Idgaf if she's Steve's het ship, I don't think Steve should be with anyone or if he is, it should be a regular/non-super hero person. Him being with Peggy's blood relative because she's too old just registers on so many DO NOT WANT factors I can't believe anyone actually ships it.

ngl I like Steve being single. I know it's not the Hollywood version of The Way Life Should Be but I really enjoyed having a hero that was single and okay with it the way I'm okay with being single. Everyone else has a pairing (I count Bruce in his angsty 'can't be together' as paired). It wasn't even a 'he needs to stay loyal to his lost love' thing for me so much as 'yeah, there's nothing wrong with you if you don't have a SO'. It was refreshing to see someone that WASN'T paired and just getting on with his life. I knew Hollywood wouldn't let it last but damn, I wish they had. Steve makes a good single guy.

For me, I think it's just feeling the whole ship is ooc for Steve. He just never struck me as the kind of guy to do something that skeevy (falls in love with a girl in his original time and when he wakes up again, whoops, too old, goes out and fucks her niece instead).

I find the Steve/Sharon pairing idea for the upcoming movie uncomfortable too. Just too close, dude. Way too close. Relatives are off limits. It sounds like a cool tie-in idea until you start paying attention to the implications and then it gets creepy fast. I would have loved to see him fall in with with a regular/non-super hero person however. Sure, they'd have to be someone pretty special to put up with the whole super hero thing but that's one of the reasons I loved MJ in the Spider-man comics: PRE-reboot. Sure she was a super model but at the end of the day, she was just a regular human without a fancy skin tight suit, special training or super powers and when she got in a jam, she had to use her head and her grit to get through. I remember when she beat up the Chameleon with a baseball bat. Good times, good times. I would have loved a set up like that.

this is captain america, not spider-man.

besides, steve was in the ice for about sixty years. that's a lot of generations between peggy and sharon. i wouldn't keep trying with the "too close" stuff.

are you idiots slready whining about sharon? why the fuck are you objecting to a badass lady who bossed steve. around and kicked ass without any powers at all?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
you know, I read through the whole thing twice and I didn't see anyone whining about sharon. Not a single bash to her character or abilities or anything. So you might want to crank it back a bit. What I did see were people saying they were uncomfortable with the probable relationship between her and captain america in the upcoming movie. Dating multiple family members can be a squicky subject for people, even if its comic logic. I'm not sure why that would be hard to understand whether you're fine with it personally or not. For myself I'm going to wait and see how they handle it, the same way I waited to see how they'd handle steve's patriotism in our more cynical age. Hopefully the upcoming film will do as well with the relationship with sharon as the first film did with steve's patriotism.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
like the other anon said, no one is bashing sharon, dumbass. it's the creepy shipping of family members thing.

not to mention, steve would be better suited with a non-super hero or agent :p

On the off-chance you're not, all I have to say in regards to that is lol ok

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
except that's not his longstanding, prolific relationship within the comics. sharon is important to steve's development and she's the driving force behind a lot of his decisions and the person who pulled him out of the doldrums when he was moping about the past. she's not just a girl he dated, she's a very good friend and someone he's relied heavily on for decades of canon. it's not anything to do with her being related to peggy. steve wasn't aware of the connection when they started dating and they continued dating because they were in love with each other and it wasn't steve chasing peggy's memory.

and to be honest, sharon's not a super-hero and never showed any interest in being one. she's an agent and she loves her job and the flashy public part of that is steve's role. so i don't get why you'd even try with that point.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Because not everyone is looking forward to her being in the movies and what that means for Steve's development. If you haven't noticed, the movies aren't always good about what they take from the comics and put on screen.

Except in the case of lady characters, the movies have pretty awesome so far. Natasha, Pepper, and Peggy have all been kickass, both in characterization and in utilization as characters. Why do you think Sharon won't be?

I still cringe, too. And I'll keep cringing. Because I'm just going to come out and say it:

-I don't like the actress they picked and think she looks way too young for the role.
-I don't like the character and don't think I'm required to just because I'm a woman.
-I don't like the ship for reasons that have already been covered.

AND I'M SURE AS SHIT NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO RPERS PICKING HER UP JUST TO COCKHOP HER ON EVERY GODDAMN STEVE OUT THERE. You know it's going to happen, I know it's going to happen, and by god I am dreading it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-14 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
The actress in question is pretty awesome, actually, and perfect for playing Sharon if her previous work is anything to go by. She's also older looking than the other actresses considered for the role, and is only 3 years younger than Hemsworth (same age as Kat Dennings, in fact). All that aside, though, you've got me curious - why don't you like her?

Won't bother asking why you don't like Sharon since I asked a similar question upthread and got no answer, but not sure why you're bringing "being a woman" into the topic at all. This isn't tumblr, no one's going to accuse you of "omg internalized misogyny!!!" or something. As for the ship, ymmv and honestly I don't curr. Same with the "cockhopping".

I don't buy Emily as Sharon either, even though I like the actress. I picked up Revenge because I liked Emily's performance in Everwood and I was really happy she got her own show. However, I think her performance is uninspired and slightly wooden. Yes, I know she's supposed to be portraying a psychopath, but I thought she could have done better. I ended up getting bored with Revenge during the second season, so if anyone watches it, please let me know if it got more interesting.

I actually like Sharon as a character, but I think a lot of times her dynamic with Steve feels forced. I like them better separately, and I'm hoping they make her likable in the film, but I'm in the camp of "Peggy is a hard act to follow and it's way too soon and Sharon being Peggy's niece is massively creepy." Especially since flashbacks and Hayley are confirmed for Captain America 2. I would love for Sharon and Steve to be platonic and bond over Peggy, however.

As for the "being a woman" comment, you'd be surprised. I have actually once explicitly said that I like Sharon, but I don't like Steve and Sharon getting together in MCU, and I got a standoffish reply that I should support women in this franchise. For them, disliking Sharon/Steve is already grounds to invalidate anything you say and you get labeled as a Sharon basher.
