changing the font they use when a character is doing a text post. it doesn't fill me with rage or anything, but I don't understand what the point is. everything we write is in text.

i do this because i've played with a few fucking idiots who seem to forget we're doing text communication after a while, and start commenting on my character's hair or clothes or something

if the people in my games could stop being stupid, i could stop using courier to indicate that a post is in text

I basically never write in courier when making a text post or having a conversation. Fuck that.

but what if it's like:

"So I'm talking out loud now," said Y, scribbling on paper, but now I'm writing.

in the same post/tag?

If they're actually handwriting something on paper, courier makes even less sense to use to me? In that scenario, I'd probably just do it like this:

"Why are you creating characters for this example anyway?" Anne asked incredulously at the anon writing the post. She pulled out a piece of paper and wrote down a note:

"Note to self: stay away from the crazy roleplayer."

I use the tt tag, which I think a lot of people use. It's a convention that I've just been following. :|a Normally the mute character I play with just cuts out the 'wrote down' bits and skips to just using courier.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
the tt tag is terrible.

it makes everything look tiny and unreadable.

don't fucking use tt. just use courier if you're gonna use it.

that being said, I use courier for computer text communication, but not handwritten communication. and if the other person stops using it then I do too.

wow i always wondered why people were making that font so fucking tiny, i guess it's a tag all on its own

don't fucking use this, guys

use tt and a big tag

same size as a courier tag but less typing

i don't like using courier for text posts either, but are you legit high right now? do you really not understand the difference between a text post and a video post?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You're misunderstanding, what I mean is we're always writing in text and the font people use to make text posts online is usually closer to the default font anyway.

Re: ayrt

It makes me irrationally angry that you can't comprehend something as fucking simple as this. THIS IS WRTTEN IN TEXT. Unless someone recorded themselves cosplaying their character and posted it as a response, their reply to a video thread would be written with text. So there's no point in distinguishing IC text with courier because you're still using text to write it.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
...yeah i don't think you get what text replies in rp are.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You seem incredibly butthurt that people want to distinguish IC text replies from roleplaying text that characters can't see.

Or you have no IC/OOC divide.

yes, this is what I was trying to say, thank you.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
uh, no? most people tend to go with whatever the op has written the main post in. if a character makes a video post, many people have their character reply in video format. if you want your character to reply in audio or text, you need to label that in your subject line, or somehow otherwise make it obvious that your character isn't giving a video reply.

we're all OBVIOUSLY writing in text. no fucking shit. but we're pretending our characters are using video, audio, and text functions. the fuck are you doing, bro?

I think this is very much a YMMV thing. Personally I like it because it lends an easy visual distinction - sure, everything we write is in text but that's not so for the characters.

Though that said, it does bug me when people use the code that results in the text going tiny. I'd rather no coding at all than coding that makes stuff that much harder to read.
