then use that feature on your own journal you whiny bitch. if you don't like how someone formats their own journal, don't go there.

This is a pretty stupid argument.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
your character journal has posts that i need to be able to access: ic contact, hmd post, etc. if you are giving more weight to your aesthetics and making it more difficult for me to access those posts, then you fail at design

not to mention that most pages i've seen that only load one post per page have some bullshit hipster gray-on-white tiny text with a lot of distracting crap around the edges, and the links frequently have some clever name that makes it impossible to tell which one is which

this is not tumblr

quit trying to make it look like tumblr

>tumblr has only one post per page

Uh, no it doesn't. Most tumblrs are endlessly scrolling posts. It's like the exact opposite of what you're talking about.

if you're going to a journal for the ic contact page then that is one link that you need to click. if you're going to give them crit you only need to click on the hmd page.

if clicking a single link puts too much of a strain on you, i'm sorry but you are beyond help.

you sorta missed two major points of their argument.

1) that people who do this are the same sorta people who often make their layout impossible to navigate to FIND the links.

2) that they are also the same sorta people who name their pages cutesy things like idk "leave it at the beep" instead of "IC voice mail."

Not everyone who does one page formats do shit like that, but I've seen it. it also only works if you ONLY have like 5 links.

Plus is is, legitimate, a known fact of web design that the more things a person had to click, the more likely they are to just peace out. maybe lazy but most people feel that way. see: the $300 million dollar button.

what do you mean you can only have 5 links? you can have however many you want on a navpost. and, frankly, if people don't want to click links, that's their problem. the people in question aren't trying to sell products. if so, this would be a completely different discussion. as it stands, these rpers have no "customers" to cater to. they can make the information on their journals look however they want. they're not being hurt by you not clicking their links. if anyone leaves at a disadvantage, it's you, and it's not all that big of a disadvantage anyway.

if you want information that badly and you hate their layout that much, march on over to google.

I don't mean you physically can only have 5 post, it was an arbitrary smallish number pulled out of my ass. I mean if your "navigation" posts has 30 links, it's a shitty, cluttered navigation post and isn't very useful for navigating.

And please, let's not pretend 90% of what's on character journals isn't for other people. True, not paying customers, but rp culture is primarily fueled by "Look at me!" and people with pretentious layouts are fueled by that doubly so.

plus google is a pretty pointless search engine for most things people would go looking for on a character's journal, sans actual canon information. most the time when I go to people's journal, I'm looking for things specific to their portrayal like permission posts, or CR memes.

I'm sorry you're so upset people don't like your layout, dude.
