not everyone in the world is white, not everyone in the world associates big eyes and yellow hair with white people

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
well people who naturally have blue eyes and yellow hair do

omg, those people? the ones who have yellow hair and blue eyes naturally? they're white

Maybe some of us who are WoC in the RP world would prefer seeing REAL FUCKING WOMEN OF COLOR instead of anime and manga used to represent us.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
so the woc who like anime and think it represents us just fine don't count huh

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
nope

You count just fine. You also have every other game on DW to see those faces. I can count on one hand the WoC la characters I've seen. I want to see more. I want a game where I see faces instead of drawings.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
you're not going to see it in this game

you'll be lucky to see a white woman

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
you're an idiot if you think the people who play la give a shit about PoC. if they did, they would already play them. people aren't going to magically give a shit about PoC characters just because anime/manga and video game characters are out of the picture. all you're going to get is a bunch of white characters, mainly men, being apped in for ooc shipping. they have too many to choose from that they don't need to strain themselves by considering to play anything else.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Or here's a novel thought. They don't want sjw's getting their knickers in a twist over appropriation and therefore avoid the issue by not stepping on that landmine.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's a dumbass chicken shit cop-out thought for people who too full of negative stereotypes about PoC that they know they can't play one without being offensive. The very fact they cannot see a PoC as an actual person or character and can only look at them from the perspective of what their skin color is says more about them than anything else.

And that isn't going to suddenly change with all the damn anime and video game characters gone. People will still claim they can't dare to play PoC or someone might wank on them. Which won't happen as long as they are IC and don't try to take on their character's issues as if they are suddenly oh-so affected by them.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god shut up. i know you think being an sjw means you can automatically tell every single person's motivation when they disagree with you but you just sound like a whiny tool. go back to tumblr, there's an echo chamber there where you'll be happy

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
No I'm a WoC who is sick an tired of people insisting how many more PoC character players there would be around if this ONE thing suddenly changed. Most players are white girls who don't care enough about PoC characters to even have thought about playing them beyond a fleeting consideration. Because they assume it's too hard and too tough to play a PoC. When all they have to do is treat them like a damn person and play them based on how they are in their canon.

I'm tired of people acting like it's the secret wankers keeping players away from PoC characters when that's total bullshit. How many people who have played a PoC character have actually been wanked on? How many of those weren't being offensive or playing their character OOC?

The fact they keep insisting PoC characters are these evasive special unicorn characters they "can't do justice," "can't relate to," or "will get wanked on for screwing up," is just a passive kind of racism that continues to make PoCs the Unknowable Other while shifting responsibility for their refusal to even try on some hypothetical horde of sjws out to get them that I've yet to see.

I would welcome people playing more PoC. I would even give people some leeway just for trying as long as they're willing to improve. But if you give the average rper a choice, they will pick a white character over a PoC majority of the time. So stop acting like they're so worried about wank when the truth is they keep Othering us by projecting their own assumptions of how we'll react to them playing a PoC onto us.

But what other people besides white people have natural yellow hair? And bigger eyes for that matter? Not Japanese people. Is it really such a stretch to think a BLONDE AND BLUE EYED CHARACTER is white? Unless they dyed their hair and have colored contacts in.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
just to point out that there are some poc's that have naturally blonde hair and/or blue/green eyes.

True but come on. It's not even close to being as common. Blonde hair and blue eyes are very much predominantly white traits and are rare in others.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
oh, i completely agree. just wanted to point out that it's not like it's completely unheard of.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's a stylistic choice to help them stand out from the rest of the cast unless we're talking something like Attack on Titan or FullMetal Alchemist where the setting is Western-inspired.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I realize that but people screaming about how we shouldn't associate a blonde haired blue eyed character with being white is a little silly. They're predominantly white traits. Now in the end anime characters have blue/purple/pink whatever hair and that's true and then there's a whole argument about the eyes/facial features that one could go into but that's a whole mess.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's fair to be a little annoyed if said blond/blue-eyed character was from an anime set in Japan though. But I think the easiest indication for race in anime is usually the name or certain other visual cues anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Being in Japan doesn't mean the character can't be white. They could be white raised in Japan. I don't think there's need for as much anger as people express.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
How often do we get characters like those in a multicoloured cast though?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that the character is really white I'm just saying it's really not so far fetched or impossible or really very insulting to associate a character with those features with being white, even in a multi-colored hair/eye cast. It's really nothing to be offended about, it's a natural association to make. But there's quite a bit of butthurt on both sides of this argument whenever I see it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
actually, the blonde characters in FMA aren't white, either. or, at least, some of them aren't (winry and hawkeye might be).

ed, al and hohenheim are technically of iranian descent, as hohenhem is from a fictionalized persia and is of the ethnicity found in that region.
