Well, we've already relaxed the wording of the AC requirements to allow for more freedom there. We don't really want to stray too far from the no FtB rule, since I think that's what sets us apart from the other games, but I can also see the value of the sort of threads you're talking about, too.
Would it help to amend the rule to something along the lines of, "Handwaving may be used within threads as long as the AC has already been met for the month elsewhere. However, overuse of handwaving in an attempt to avoid smut play may be cause for mod action, since it is the primary focus of our game." ?
