couldn't really say much about nayru tbh since i didn't know her but from my perspective in the game at the time, the mods mostly stopped giving a shit. players got conflicting answers to questions, events and plots stopped being posted by the mods, that sort of thing. i left because it was pretty obvious that the game wasn't going to last for much longer by then

nayru didn't have anything to do with why it failed, from a player perspective.
it's as the anon up here says. the game ran it's course. the mod team as a whole lost interest, but the game itself also slowed down. There were conflicting answers and, if I remember right, upkeep just wasn't being done. There were supposed to be events every month, but things started to go downhill event-wise after the blood sucking tree incident.
the mods were also hard to reach, most of the time. that didn't help matters at all either.
hopefully the new team can keep it going, because i really did enjoy my time there.
