I loved the series and even I thought Otonashi/Kanade was rushed. I actually didn't mind because they're teenagers and realisticly, most teenage romances are rushed and long drawn out 'will they won't they' dramas piss me off when I'm watching them. Looking at you Clannad.
There are worse, more OOC yaoi pairings out there though. AB! was full of slashy undertones.
The pairing itself doesn't bother me - you'd have to be blind not to see the hints in canon - but the way the characters are being played. I think you could pull this ship off without being horribly ooc, but they're... not.
