there's a big, big difference between two teenagers implied to have mutual but unconsummated crushes on each other vs. someone in their 40s or 50s who's been married to the same person for the past 20 years.

it's pretty normal for the first thing to fizzle out once they've been away from each other for a couple months and for them to quickly hop into a new relationship with someone else, since teenagers do that. otoh, it's hard for me to believe the second relationship would end quickly without some serious shit going down. i'm not saying that long-term marriages never end or go sour, but it's going to take more than just being away from their husband/wife for a couple months for the relationship to dissolve.
