when you see an OC described as having a great interest in fashion, and the character image on their profile has them dressed like a scene kid from a 1990s emo music video. sailor uniform plus red and black stripe arm warmers

not a big deal, just something that made me squint

idk, i feel like "interest in fashion" could still be accurate

just also "shitty taste," you're not always good at the things that interest you

acceptable if the time period of the oc in question is actually the 90s. if not, then +1.

+1

doesn't necessarily mean "mainstream fashion"

tbf "mainstream fashion" is probably what most people think of when they hear the word "fashion" (if not high fashion). if it's a more alternative branch of fashion then people tend to qualify it as such, but otherwise you're right

but if a character is described as having an "interest in fashion" with no explanation or qualification, most people will assume you mean mainstream fashion. if a character is part of a specific subculture it's usually expected that you'll say that.

i freaking love fashion but that doesn't mean i'm dressed in the current trends every day, or want to be? doesn't have to be a contradiction

also it's an oc, maybe that is fashion in their setting

pffft, my favourite part of giving characters interests is the fact they don't actually need to be good at them.

It's almost always fun to give a character absolutely awful taste in at least one subject.

The real problem is when the player doesn't realise their character's taste is awful.

I think i know the oc the op is talking about and if thats the case then the second is pretty likely

Hey man, Freddie Mercury had TERRIBLE fashion sense and look where that got him.

A sue/stu can dream, is what I'm sayin.
