Chiming in to say that I saw it and while the main guy falls under "underdog," the movie does show that he is actually a good person. So "shitty" not so much. We're told he's done some criminal things, but it's more of an informed character trait than anything we actually see.
It's fun. Outside of a questionable bit towards the end with a princess (I personally didn't think too much of it, but I can see where others would balk), I didn't see anything offensive or overly Millar-y. I'd think there's more chance of conservatives being offended, really, considering a particular church scene and how the rich are represented. The women are few in number, definitely, and that's a bummer. But I saw them to be capable and respected. I say give it a shot. You know, when the streets are thawed out again.
